My name is Courtney, and I am a 19 year old college student with no previous employment.
I got lucky (or unlucky, as it's turning out) in life and was raised by a father who made good money; I had no reason to work and when I showed interest in employment during high school I was encouraged by my father to concentrate on my school work and not worry about jobs - the sooner I started working, the longer I would have to work.
So I allowed myself to enjoy the luxury of living off my parents. Now though, I'm paying for it. I have been applying for all manner of entry-level positions and so far I have only received one interview. I thought that the interview went exceedingly well until I received an automated email informing me that I had just not made the cut. Since none of the other places I have applied to have contacted me, I am back at square one it seems.
With unemployment for people ages 18-24 at 24%, I feel like I'm at a severe disadvantage in the job market.
So, Team Unemployed, what does a girl with no history do to land herself a job? Where should I look? What magic words should I say to make me more attractive to possible employers?
