Wow. I think I dodged a bullet with these people...

So, I had a phone interview last week and was passed to the next round. Yay! But, I'm totally dependent on public transportation, and all the woman would tell me is "Blah Blah Area" (I did ask for the address, but was told "Well give you those details if you make it to the interview.") which is normally very bus accessible. Of course, they were ( Read more... )

Maybe not so snotty...they might have erred on the side of efficiency in a desire to thank you promptly. More formality wouldn't have killed them, though.

I don't know that I would even bother to do a phone interview for a place that refused to give me a physical address...that for sure was WAY unprofessional of them. Hope you find a much better job that that one, soon!

That's the second time that's happened to me. First time was 6 years ago, with a temp agency sending me somewhere for an interview. In this case, she was dead-set against giving me the info over the phone, and insisted she had to email it, even when I explained my email was wonky sometimes. Sure enough, the info never came and I'd even contacted her to let her know I still didn't have it. The day of the interview, still nothing, so I'd sent her a fairly tart email saying essentially "I had this interview today, but couldn't attend because you refused to give me the required info to attend and ignored my attempts to correct the situation." She never answered that, either.

This last one I at least got the information, but the next time someone refuses, I'm taking it as a big red flag.

I had an HR person say that they would send me directions/location the day before the interview. Those directions never arrived, either. :P

Honestly I don't think her reply was that rude. You're lucky she replied at all. A lot of places wouldn't.

Yeah, I think I was just oversensitive yesterday. my room mate and I had almost been in a car accident while on errands yesterday and I was still on a hair-trigger when I got home and found out I couldn't do the interview, and everything got magnified x10 for me for a bit.

You probably should have mentioned that in your post. My reply would have been a lot more supportive. :P Hope you're okay!

I take it you're in the Denver area? If so, I have to give some props to Apple One staffing. I was pretty skeptical about the whole staffing-agency thing for a long time, but after the one I was with burned me, I signed on with them and they've flooded me with placements. I don't know if that kind of thing is feasible for you, but I'd recommend checking it out because they seem to be doing a lot better than pretty much anything else in the area. Even if it's just a string of crappy temp placements, it's money and it's a current resume.

Wow, an Apple One that doesn't just run old/fake ads just to collect resumes? I'm not being sarcastic: they have a reputation, and I've experienced it before, but if they're actually giving out assignments fairly regularly it's worth checking into again.

Yep, I'm in Denver :)

I know the Boulder office is legit, so maybe you would want to register with them? They do have stuff in Denver, so that's not necessarily a barrier. I was super-skeptical too, but the job market here being what it is, I figured I couldn't possibly do any worse, and since then I have consistently been getting e-mails about decent work. I was floored, I'd heard the rumors too, but it's been the most fruitful approach I've tried yet.

"Okay. Thanks." is probably the content of most of my work emails :(
