Update to Previous Post, and a new gripe

It only took two and a half weeks, and it cost me the job at the hospital that I wanted, but that manager I had at the ballet finally called back. He did confirm that I did indeed have my start date correct. He apologized over and over, which was nice ( Read more... )

Yes, there ARE jobs. And there are also hundreds of thousands of people looking for them.
This. Plus there are only so many jobs amongst all of them advertised that you can even apply for due to experience/skills.

Looking at my local job listings today this is the most recent on the front page:

#1 Painter. [Specifies trade qualified painting experience for mixing, work safety qualifications, and FIVE years experience (!!)]
#2 Lawyer
#3 & 4 HR Project Officer
#5 Accountant
#6 Electrician
#7 Engineer
#8 Qualified baker
#9 Junior Personal Assistance [specifies 3 years experience in requirements, ad is also rife with spelling and formatting errors which makes me hmmm]
#10 Accountant
#11 Nurse
#12 Mechanical Engineer
#13 Mechanic Workshop Manager
#14 Geologist
#15 Trainee Recruitment Consultant [experience in a specific type (B2B - whatever that is, and if I don't know then I doubt I have it!) of sales]
#16 Lawyer
#17 Lawyer
#18 Legal Assistant [must be experienced]
#19 Project manager
#20 Community Relations Manager

I know that's only a small selection out of all the advertised jobs combined, but it's a good showing of what's out there. Not one of those jobs am I able to apply for. Either I haven't gone to uni to study that (law, engineering, accounting) or I haven't worked in the field to get the work experience they want for it!

If I narrow the searches down to cover the things I could do:

61 jobs today for admin related work. On the front page there is ONE job for entry level work, which is what I need to get into admin (I have qualificaitons but no work experience).

On the second page, one of the jobs from the first is advertised again. So.. there's really 60 jobs (and then less again any other duplicates, which happen often, especially with recruiment firms). Both pages include office managers, bookkeepers, co-ordinators...

Retail jobs, there are only 32 today. The front page includes beauticians, auto parts sellers, management, team leaders.

Basically, people only seem to lok at the quantity of advertised jobs, not the 'quality'. Taking my experience into consideration there's only a pool of ~100 jobs I can consider, and then even less than that due to the ones I'm not even qualified or experienced in (management, specialist fields etc.)

And that's what I want to shove in people's faces when they moan about the amount of jobs available! But if you did that they'd tell you to go back to school to study, as if that's entirely feasible when you want food on your table over the next few years rather than new text books :/

Just jumping in here-- B2B usually means 'business to business.' :)
