Assuming the NJ unemployment is working the same as FL, if this is your first or second extension or third extension - it *should* roll over automatically. That said, you need to check your balance and plan now for a possibly shorted check prior to the extension taking place.

What I mean is, the extension won't go into effect until the period AFTER you completely 0 out your current unemployment benefit allowance. Unless you're really lucky, this means that the last check is probably going to be an odd number, since your benefit amount doesn't always divide nice and evenly into the allowance. For example, when mine rolled over, my check was over $100 short.

It's a PITA (and stupid, imo ... when on unemployment, the smallest change in benefit amount can mean the difference between paying rent or eating...), but your next check will be the full amount.

The only time you have to do anything is if your state didn't qualify for the Emergency Benefit Extension (which, oddly enough, comes BEFORE Extended Benefits ...). In that case, I would suggest calling or going down to your unemployment or WorkForce/Labor Agency that works with Unemployment and speaking with them. If your state does qualify for those Emergency Benefits, then you have this and one more extension that will roll over immediately.

Once those two are exhausted, then you have to actually reapply for the Extended Benefits (Third Tier) and things get more complicated. I'm not looking forward to that eventuality myself. :|

If you have any other questions let me know. :)

Oh, I just did a quick search - this is the page that *should* apply to you right now if you're just now reaching the end of your original benefit period.

Thanks so much for all that info. I'm just totally overwhelmed by all of this - I have been working nonstop since I was 16 - and all the info online seems confusing. Thanks for breaking it down. :)
