Reading Festival.....here we go

Alright there is a fuckload to say about that festival as it was the greatest weekend of my entire life.

First of all I would like to say thanks to the following for making the weekend what it was

Peck
Della
Mikeymoko
Michael Coates
Jed Shepherd
Luke
Darkness
Rojo
Marz
argon
envy
Nat
AUSSIE STEVE
australian cricketers
kiwi blanka
Simon
Alison
Cooney

sorry if i forgot anyone

The majority of those people were met on the internet. I went to the festival having met only a handful of them before, and it was the best time in my life.

THURSDAY

after the worst bus journey ever I arrived at the festival and met a few of the ashboarders and pitched up in Ash Camp, right in the centre. the night went on great, with more and more boarders meeting up and drinking and smoking. Cooney was stoned off his arse all night which would be a recurring factor over the weekend. But hats off to him and Peck for keeping the supply coming. Kept us all lightheaded all weekend.

FRIDAY

first day of music, started with a trip to the supermarket where i stocked up on happy hippos and 18 cans of Dr pepper, then on to Pizza Hut for everyone to eat. bands seen on Friday were

Dropkick Murphys (gash)
Graham Coxon
Elbow
The Coral
Queens Of The StoneAge
Death From Above 1979
The Cooper Temple Clause
Charlotte Hatherly
Great day allround. Dropkick Murphys were GASH. how many songs can you make with bagpipes and punk music. one trick ponys. lame ponies. with diseases.

Graham Coxon was great. not seen him before and was never a big fan of Blur, but it was a good show.

Elbow were also great. Not heard anything by them before but I was told by cooney and the manchester lot that they were worth staying around for and they were.

The Coral. a band i hate on CD, I loved live. fantastic performance and fun times for all.

QOTSA were possibly my favourite band of the day. quite a long set including no one knows, feel good hit of the summer, song for the dead, go with the flow and lost art of keeping a secret.

DFA 1979 were ok. im not a fan but they were fun to watch.

TCTC i dont remember much of

Charlotte Hatherly was good. not heard much of her stuff besides the singles but i was impressed. she was joined by Graham Coxon at one point which was good.

Friday night was Jeds birthday night and we fucked some shit up. Rojo supplied us with absinthe which went down a treat. I had two swigs which fucked me up a bit. Jed had a bottle of champagne and WAY too much absinthe. but that was good as he stood up and declared - LETS GO FUCK SOME SHIT UP. he went off and stole 2 scooters and rode them through the fire, then at 4am we went on a weezer party. armed with Buddy Holly on repeat, we invaded some camps and sang to them, waking many up in our path, at one point with moko standing on an upturned trolly shouting at the tops of his lungs as one paser by anged on peoples' tents to wake everyone up.

SATURDAY

saturday morning I was fucked. decided to wake up at 3pm when everyone had already got up, been to the pub, got food, seen some bands and come back. I'm dedicating this blog entry to the FANTASTIC game of cricket played on site, joined by some aussies and kiwis. It was brutal and hilarious. never had more fun in my days playing cricket. pictures are all up.

bands seen were

Dinosaur Jr
The Charlatans
Razorlight
Kings Of Leon
Foo Fighters
Comedian Andy Kilner
that comedian was dire and was booed off the stage.

Dinosaur Jr were a bit samey throughout their set and bored me a bit. except when they covered "just like heaven" by the cure. nice.

charlatans were great. not heard much by them but i recognised some songs from the 90's

Razorlight were fantastic. at nottingham they were gash, but they were great at reading. great set. Borrel is a bit up himself but no harm in that.

Kings of Leon were the highlight of the night.

Foo's were great. bit of a shit setlist though.

saturday night finished earlier than friday night. everyone was still tired.

SUNDAY

woke up about 11am and we went off to the supermarket again. then to the pub to watch the cricket all morning.

Maximo Park
Iggy and the Stooges
Incubus
Marilyn Manson
Iron Maiden
maximo park were alright, didnt stay for long as i went for a wander, watched some comedy, had some food and had some time to myself to just lie down and rest in the middle of a field.

wandered over to see iggy. im not a fan but i like "wanna be your dog". reminds me of lock stock and two smoking barrells.

Incubus SUCKED. actually they were alright. but they only played gash songs. a few alright ones like wish you were here, but the setlist was dominated by morning view and crow left of the murder. no science. only one song of make yourself.

Marilyn Manson was thouroughly enjoyable. the second time i have seen him, he's an artist performer first and a singer second. but he still pulls off both with greatness. some people stayed around because they were intrigued by him. the same people looked scared to death when he emerged with black clothes and a firey chandelier, and creepy music. quality.

last band of the festival - Iron Maiden. most people fucked off to watch bloc party, but bollocks to that. Maiden played a set consisting of their first four albums only, which was sweet. no new stuff, no promotion of a new album. Just the best. fantastic stage show also. pyrotechnics, giant Eddie, flag waving and a great time.

wandered back to the site. got high, went and fucked some shit up. No riot like leeds were treated to, but we did get a few exploding tents, lots of fires, constant fire truck sirens, and we fucked up a gazebo with a portable weezer party!!

MONDAY

woke up a few hours after i fell asleep outside byt the fire. only woke up because moko was sat on me. packed up shit, played more cricket and caught a bus home.

best weekend ever.
