Why I'm here + My goals + How I do it

Apr 03, 2008 13:23

First off, I'm gonna start with why I joined this community. Despite being "thin" my whole life, weight became a
(closet) concern of mine. I have been struggling with my weight since I left high school (i was 100-110lbs in HS and that was 5+ years ago). I was never really able to keep up with dieting and exercise. In late 2005, I was up to 130lbs, ( Read more... )

Reading this has reminded me to take my Centrum. I keep forgetting!

You weighed 130lbs at one point!? Well, I guess you know how I feel then when I say that if I knew you at the time then you certainly didn't look it.

Hmm, maybe by you going 3-4 times per week, I'll be able to do so as well. Of course, having the 24 hour access will give you quite the advantage.

Yeah it was late 2005 through early 2006 and I was 130. I think I knew you, but I was not religiously talking to you like I do now :p.

This sounds like a really sensible set of habits.

I don't know about the food pyramid though, since there is controversy over how much it is influenced by the lobbying of American agribusiness. I'll probably consider using the proposed alternative (created by Harvard dieticians). But I don't do well with a whole lot of structure on my diet either, so I try to develop general eating habits rather than have to think about and follow rules.

Well, like diets, I don't religiously follow the food pyramid. However, I do think that having things like grains, fruits, vegetables and meats (for protein) it makes sense to me.

Reading some about the controversy, it brought up some stuff on not having to eat meat. In all honesty, people who are MEAT IS MURDER annoy me because (and this is just a personal thing) I think vegetarians and vegans are full of shit (there's controversy over plants feeling pain). Animals eat other animals in the wild, so why the fuck can't I have my turkey sandwich?

Aaaaand that was an off topic rant. Sorry :p.plants feel pain too). Animals eat other animals in the wild, so why the fuck can't I have my turkey sandwich? Aaaaand that was an off topic rant. Sorry :p.

Oh, did you know I am a vegetarian? Haha. I am not dogmatic about it, but I am sure it still annoys people when they have to choose where to go out to eat with me.

I don't know if plants feel pain; I'm skeptical about that one but maybe you could explain more.

Well, OF COURSE I didn't know! Really, I just can't stand anyone who tries to force you to believe what they believe (i.e. PETA, I dont' want them throwing paint on my FAKE fur coats). So if you're not doing that then I won't dislike you :p.

And just to elaborate on plant pain theories (despite it getting totally off topic), have you heard the theory that talking to your plants make them grow? I think it's *somewhat* similar to the theory that they feel pain.

How can a plant feel pain without a nervous system?

The only person ever to study this.

It's a study obviously not all that invested in because what's the use of it. It would only send (some) people into some kind of unnecessary panic (SAVE OUR PLANTS!!) if they figured out that plants felt anything. Anywho, back to fitness!

Cool! I share almost exactly the same ideas from your list.

However since I'm building more muscle, I gotta eat meat 3-4 times a week and it's chicken or pork most of the time so it's less fattening than eating beef. I rarely have steak and I definitely savor the moment whenever I do.

Amanda's gotten me hooked on having Centrum chewables once every day. They're awesome when you have them along with some green tea.

I really hear you on not being able to go on without rice. I don't think I can go for a single day without having SOME sort of bread-related product to eat in any of my meals. Of course, that's part of the problem I'm trying to cut back on.

The biggest thing I'm always having a hard time following is getting a decent amount of sleep every day and that affects your weight just as much as anything else you eat.

Yeah, red meat is definitely not all that great for you, so I try to limit my intake of it to (at most) once a week. I mostly eat turkey, chicken, and fish. Eggs are really good for protein too.

YES! I eat chewable vitamins too. They make it easier for me to take them. I believe that too many carbs is a bad thing (too much of anything is a bad thing, actually), but if you're active there should be at least some sort of carb intake.

YES! You are totally right. You can't get too little or too much sleep. I make sure I get 8 hours every night. Sleep deprivation RUINS EVERYTHING!!!

Yeh I agree totally on the carb thing... I think its more figuring out what you eat too much of and cut back on that... for me its was DEFINITELY carbs... breads, rice, pastas ... LOVE THEM... so im pretty much on a "low carb" diet but very loosley and only cuz thats my main prob. I blame it on my asian parents =P... One scoop of food... TWO BOWLS OF RICE O_O...

Seriously tho, anyone eating anything in excess im sure will start to see a difference once they start looking at what they eat...

P.S. Heh I take "one-a-day" now and an extra vitamin C tablet =) every morn.
