Dear Yuletide Anon,
Thank you so much for writing a story for one of my fandoms! I know I’ll love whatever you come up with, so feel free to ignore anything I say under the cut. In case you would like a starting point, however, here are some prompts:
Jaran Series - Kate Elliott
Hey, I didn’t nominate this one this year! But I’m always up for trying to make Jaran happen as a fandom. I’m in it for the rich cultural worldbuilding and the excellent character interactions. I’d be more than happy with slice of life, like Jaran doing laundry (or the Arenabekh - what’s the division of labour like without women?), or child-Yuri trying to adopt random wildlife as pets, or what the jahar bets on when they’re not invested in Tess and Ilya’s love-life. I’d bet Sonia and Mikhail had a pretty epic romance as well; the Orzekhov’s all seem like big personalities in their own way. I’d even love to know how the camp decides tent placement, or if they have soccer/football (they must, right?), and maybe some history around horse thievery. They can probably tell a couple of multi-day stories about horse raids.
I have as many questions about the Earth and Chapalii cultures as I do the Jaran. (Oh man, Rhui! Actors! There’s so much good stuff in there.) You pretty much can’t go wrong.
Dark Matter (TV)
With canon parallel universes, amnesia, and AI, this show lends itself really well to ridiculous tropey fic. Take it wherever you like, I am in!
Huh… One was my least favourite character, but I just had a thought: does the Raza still have the scan of his brain from before he went into stasis? Or did they destroy them when Ishida uploaded his? Can they clone whassis face and upload one’s brain scan to it? Bet his company would be interested to know they have it. They could probably sell it off at the very least if they're low on credits.
The Get Down (TV)
This show is just so... shiny!!! I have a hard time picking where to start for fic because I love so many things about it and I always feel like I'm leaving something out. Maybe if you were going to go AU, this would be a fun world to mix around. Even like a really subtle magic realism thing would be fun.
Killjoys (TV), Pree
I’m endlessly delighted by thoughts of fabulous warlord Pree. Maybe like a five times Pree slipped up and alluded to his terrifying past in front of his patrons sort of deal. If you want to cross this over with something (Stargate is coming to mind, but if you have one you want to use, don’t worry if I know it or not) so you don’t have to make up a war/warrior culture that’s okay by me, too.
