Where did this spring come from?

Apr 20, 2009 08:29

I have cherry tree blossoms outside my window and chirping birds all around me, so clearly it must be spring. The massive ancient magnolia in our front yard even decided to be in full bloom over the weekend. Spring has officially come to Seattle, ready or not (even though there was the threat of snow again early last week).

I suppose I should admit here that my health has been non-to-stable this last week. Honestly, it had to be a bit expected, with me trying to do all the travel and also run the store. I knew I was in a bit of trouble and tried to stay home late last week to handle it, but by the time I saw my Endo on Friday morning my blood pressure was still significantly unstable. The dear sweet man looked at me, full of compassion and understanding, and ordered me home, to bed, and No Work of any kind for 72 hours . He even made sure I understood that meant "no email, no phone calls, no going in, nothing, period" for the whole weekend, and he wouldn't even let me stop in the store on my why home from his office to tell them (though I was allowed one last short phone call). He was clear that I needed to rest, and take as much pain medication as was required to do that (something I always hate to do). Z was there with me so I couldn't even just reinterpret what I was being told. You can just imagine the indignity!!! The horror!!

So, home I came, and while I was on facebook a little (which I'd decided didn't constitute work, though I will admit it is close), I did mange not to open mail or do any other work tasks except making myself the occasional pot of tea. As a reward, I've been able to sleep though the night, even got some naps, and woke up this morning able to get out of bed without almost falling over. I have a normal blood pressure and pulse, and even a bit of an appetite. All novel as of late. However, I have decided that I'm taking the next 10 days or so on "very reserved work duties", as I have the trip to the Expo after that where I teach for one full day (3 - 2 hour sessions back to back, plus other duties on my feet in a suit and heels) and have two other days full of teaching and networking with vendors after that. It's always a bit of a grind, and I need to go into it as strong as possible.

So, I guess I'll focus on tasks I can do from my couch, getting our new accounting and bookkeeping system on-line, and getting enough rest. If I'm a very good girl I can even go back to kickboxing by mid week. But only if I'm a very good girl. *sigh*

In other doctorly news, the blood tests that he'd done, which was what we were meeting about theoretically until I turned up half dead, all came out roses. Which lead to the conversation about how I'm still having kidney pain and symptoms even when all my hormones are testing normal or even super-normal. We decided it was time to bring in another specialist for my kidneys. We don't even know what to expect, but he referred me to the senior kidney specialist on his team, for whom I have an appointment next Monday. I see lots of new tests and several months of back and forth in my near future. :)

So, other than spending the weekend basically more on vacation than when I was technically on vacation, it's been a pretty normal week. After some wifely badgering I convinced L that 4 weeks of a head cold was not okay, and got him to call the doctor, who over the phone prescribed antibiotics. 36 hours later he was nearly cured, and by this weekend he was right as rain, which was good because it means he was able to at least do some laundry while I laid on the couch. For the first time in about 2 months all of the cats and dogs in our house are healthy and content, which is a nice change of pace I must say. Also, Z has started his new quarter, and this is his quarter with the most required practice massage hours, so if anyone has time to come be a body, he's got the time for you!

Right, now off to the store to see what's what. When last I left the intrepid party we were waiting for our electrician to modify the power outlet so we could plug in the beefy new water machine that had just been delivered! In theory it's been working great all weekend....
