Well its been a whole week in Rome.
The city is really beautiful and i absolutely love it here.
I am finally at AUR for class, and the frist place i went was the computer lab! YAY internet access!
My Flight over was a lot of fun. British airways is like the Rolls Royce of flying. We even got wine on the plane... so apropriate for our Italian adventure! I also watched Thank You For Smoking on the plane... which was awesome and i highly reccomend it.
London's airport was fun, but we only had euros and they still use pounds, so we couldnt get anything to eat or drink. But we were on our way soon enough and a few hours latter we were in Roma!
Our driver, Jonpalo pulled up with 2 mercedes benz and we all nearly fainted! It was a very nice way to leave a very hot, and crowded airport.
Finally we arrived at via della Giuliana. It felt like a life time but once we saw our beautiful new apartment we all jumped up and down in a circle squeeling BELLA BELLA BELLA GRAZIE GRAZIE! Our landlady Rosalia is wonderful and speaks english fairly well. Our Apartment looks like something out of the movies. The ceilings are very high, and the walls are painted in soft pale yellows and blues. The terrace overlooks the street and we have our own flowers to water. Its paradise.
The first night in Rome we went out to dinner and I had the best Rossoto i have ever eaten im my life. Then the four of us drank 6 bottles of wine and had a wonderful night of never-have-i-ever. The next day we went for Gelato, i had mango and pineapple and it was soooooo wonderful. Later i had coconut and peach. and shared some tiramisu gelato. They even had wasabi flavored gelato, but that is for the more daring.
We walked all around the vatican and attempted to find AUR. So the bus ride was only about 20-30 min... not bad at all b/c the scenery changes so quickly and there is sooo much to look at.
The other night we got locked out of our apartment. The door was broken "LA PORTA ES ROTTO" and i again seemed to be the only one who could manage italian. After 3 hours we were finally let into the apartment, and a locksmith came the next day to fix our door. Only for us to be locked out again the next night when the key got stuck and i had to call Rosalia again and explain. "la chiave es bloccada" I think. Anyway she understood me, and i understand her and so far we are getting along great.
We are having so much fun but some of the others are getting homesick already. I miss you guys like crazy but i dont miss being home... I want you all to come here!
The other day a boy shouted at Elaine "BELLA BELLA Beautiful Eyes!! Will You Marry Me?" she laughed and said sure! He said "Dont forget me me no?"
So as we were walking back home we passed the same boy and Elaine yells "Hey You still Want to Marry Me?"
"SI!" shouts the boy. and Elaine just looks over her shoulder and says "Okay just checking!"
Another boy got Amandas attention by asking her if she spoke english. "Hey you speaka english? I LOVA YOU!" and that was that.
This weekend was a lot of fun. The girls and I walked around the vatican and then headed out towards piazza Navona and had cocktails and pizza! The pizza here is to die for. Its very thin and toasty, and the toppings are like bruscetta. Its delizioso!!
The piazza Navona has a very young crowd, and there is alot of entertainment and cafes around the fountain. There was a mime that was dressed like charlie chaplin and poked my butt with his cane and made kissy faces at me. It was very funny.
The italian boys are very funny too. Aside from the ciao bella! they stare at you and blow kisses... we just laugh and i say basta!
The bus system in Rome is GREAT! no really im not kidding. Its super easy to ride, and can take you anywhere in the city. I would never dream of riding public transit at home, but here it is so easy, and cheap!
I guess i'm still in excitment mode.. the buzz hasn't worn off yet. Everytime i leave the apartment i look at something new and say OOOHH AHHHH.
more later... class is starting.
