We don't have a normal life right now. We could ignore everything and except for all the tree branches, damp carpets and pads and leaves everywhere I could go on as normal, but i can't. I have to do something, so volunteering at the shelter it is.
We haven't gone anywhere except the shelter or toad going to work to save fuel due to the availability and because we were exhausted.
Yesterday I got an email saying the place we had our rehearsal dinner was closing for good. Red beans and rice, here we come. I even had the energy to get dressed and make a non shower slicked look hairstyle. It just couldn't make it with the continual low traffic after the hurricanes and tropical storms that come through our area. Some of the eating establishments just can't deal with the lulls that come after the storms. This was one of them. No more Blues. No more new year celebrations there. We went, picked up a tshirt for fizzgig at her request and i asked for all the extra paper plates, flatware etc for the shelter. The wonderful manager said ok. She's going to phone me up to schedule a pickup time.
She's moving north about 4 hours. She has a 9 year old. Anybody know a book for a boy to read with a story of relocating? I only know girl ones.
The City shelter always has a need of the day. I'll let you know what it is as I find out. Unfortunately we do not have a computer at the shelter, but there is one at the library close by.
Thanks winn dixie for sending over water bottles to the shelter and hiring folks immediately for work.
also support Mobile Popcorn at
http://www.mobilepopcorn.com A few people at paperbackswap.com are sending books to me (several instead of just one) for me to take to the shelter. YAY.
It is 9/11. I haven't seen photos of people holding vigils or of good things folks are doing as i did right after 9/11. Anybody know where to point me to see something happy. We aren't allowed to take photos in the shelter. Some guy was taking some friday at the doorway. I don't know if i hid in time or not. At least i was wearing a purple frog shirt (from Kat the Great).
Ribbit. Where is that oatmeal?
