So, as you know, some days i have river moments where I think, you know what, that is just so going to happen, and it does.
Prior to the start of hurricane season i had the idea i should just load almost every book in the office and most of the books in the livingroom onto paperbackswap.com and hopefully somebody would order them. Why? because river wonders if it's all just going to get washed away in some lousy hurricane, or just rain damage on the books. The more books that are gone and credits left on PBS the more we can reorder some we'd really like to have.
I'm a packrat. I still have kids books from when I had to buy them for the classroom. I gave a bunch to Ethan and now that the next one was born, and he's a boy, and they are not likely to risk another pregnancy, and i can't have kids and anna has boxes of them, i should post these and let them go off to new homes were parents really want them.
So, click click, click, post, post post, upload, describe, and presto, a good half a shelf is loaded. NOt that there aren't six more shelves of just kids books to go... but it's a decent start.
I loaded in the books that are about feminine protagonists or I figured the E-man car freak that he is, probably wouldn't be hip on. I resist the urge to order more frog books. No. i will not. The point of this is to get books to people who want to read them, will share them with kids and aren't in the hurricane zone. Okay, so maybe they are, i'd send them anyway, but i've only ever sent books north of my location. Why? because that's where they were requested.
Toad's amazed that more people in Alaska haven't ordered them. After all, one can buy book credits. I've purchased book credits and I like the nifty tracking.... which i pay the extra for so I know the book arrived and sometimes I can even get a running account of where the book is.
I don't need the credits sooner, which is how paperback swap bills it... I just want to save my books from the thought of swamp!ination hurricanization.
And there were a few i didn't like enough to keep, or really thought i'd want to read again... but since there are two boxes and piles of books still here, apparently nobody else wanted them either.
I do wish there was a tracking that let you know where the book went, sorta like book crossing. I ordered Secret life of Bees, read it, and somebody ordered it, so off it went. Where is it now? It would be cool if we could know.
Of the books i've ordered and read, only two have been requested from me and sent off into the PBS world again. There are two toad and I have to finish, they are on waiting lists, and there's a message that four are requested of the half shelf of books i entered today. WOOOT!
So, grab up some books folks, and hopefully there won't be any swampation hurricaneization in the house... especially since the feeling isn't so strong this week. Maybe it's the 18 inches of deficit in the rainfall......
