I'm in the field!!!

Squee!  I'm so excited right now.  After two days of office training, I'm finally in the field.   Today we were working in some oil fields outside of Vernal doing some survey work.  I've worked in an office for three and a half years.  BUT.... I didn't pass out, I wore my hat and drank plenty of water, wore my sunscreen, and I had an awesome time.  Early in the day, I found a flake which led to a site (sort of ephemeral), but it had a grinding stone and several more flakes.  But it was my find first!  Hooray!  Later we found a sheepherder's camp with some cans and bottles.  That was kind of cool too - probably dated from the late 30s.  It seems funny that in order for a site to be considered historic, it has to be older than 1958.  19.58.  I'm pretty sure my mom has pants older than that.  but it was really fun to go out and get some Vitamin D and just be outside for a while.

Also, tonight a bunch of us went to a new chinese buffet that opened in town.  Not bad... I tried a litchi fruit for the first time.  Looks like a scallop, tastes a lot like a mandarin orange.  But I went more for the social aspect than anything else.  I'm meeting a lot of great people.

Here's to a good day tomorrow!

archaeology, survey work, watch burn, litchi
