To clarify: My relationship with the films had always been love and hate, that's why it has taken me 24 hours to write this entry after I saw it the first time. 24 hours later, I still love the film!
This is saying a lot because I am absolutely critical with the films when I know I shouldn't be. But these books are so close to my heart that it annoys me when sub-plots are taken out and certain things aren't explained as thoroughly in the books.
1. The film is very loyal to the book, which is what we have always wanted! I think it's fabulous that Yates manage to follow the pace of the book and try to outline the same detail in the film.
2. With the relationship chemistry of Ron and Hermione missing or told wrongly in previous films, I have to commend Yates for putting as much as he possibly can to develop their relationship in this film. There are heartfelt moments that melts my heart, my brain, and my knees because it is wonderful to see it projected on screen. That detail in the book where the trio are in Grimmauld Place and Ron and Hermione slept with their hands close together? YOU CAN SEE THAT IN THE FILM. I AM EXCITED FOR THIS because past directors would overlook the milestone in their relationship FROM THAT ONE MOMENT. That part had always been my favourite R/H moment in all seven books. I am very pleased that wasn't left out.
3. I'm iffy though. Despite the effort in catalysing the chemistry of R/H, the film seemed as if it was not able to communicate Harry and Hermione's friendship effectively. I was annoyed when they were dancing in the tent (also, Dan Radcliffe, you freaking lovable dork) but Hermione's expression really saved that whole scene. There were a lot of moments between Harry and Hermione that seemed sexually intimate. It was awkward.
4. Emma Freaking Watson, it took you six films to finally be a great actress. Less eyebrow action. I commend this girl. She was brilliant.
5. The effects. THE FREAKING VISUAL EFFECTS. Oh my goodness, the brilliance of it all. I cannot even speak properly about this. So here's a spastic keyboard action to prove my love towards it: asghjgfkhleghfeubiuebebfubieruberidberaasjdf
6. So. Much. Wand. Action. I LOVE THAT. I cannot comprehend that beauty of how these actors work their wand from the graceful gestures to the gentle nature on how they held it. It really shows the sacred relationship between a wand and its master.
7. I feel like this film will be loved by people who read the books. Others will be completely oblivious to what it was about. My friend complained that nothing happened in the film. I always felt that the first part of DH (book and film) really caters more to the developing relationship of the characters.
The first part excites me to see the second part. Hopefully, LeakyCon will happen and I get to see it with some of you lovely people! We'll all hold hands together and wipe our snot into each other's sleeves as we cry. I'm okay with that.
