regarding astronomy
stars and galaxies
numbers that are too big to have meaning:
but i am a smudge
on a drop of water
in a Pacific-ocean-sized puddle
in the backyard of Andromeda
and a light year is a measurement of distance
like i don't know how much farther
my heart can stretch
i press
and i press
but it always snaps back
with no reason to hold it in place
see, i love you in theory
but in practice i just can't perfect
the amnesic mindset that would require
so you could tell me how i feel
reconstruct
the lies that never went over
so well
they landed this week
on a moon full of gasoline
carbon-based fuel of evolution
before life stood up and took off
can you imagine a moon
so saturated with gasoline -- can you imagine
what that would look like all lit up?
look around you
we're burning
up in the night there's no depth perception
of distance or time
the stars are here and now
from where i stand
and i can't stretch my hand
far enough to reach them
and i know there are many that i'll never see
but i stretch
and i press
and i love you
in theory
