I’m trying to determine whether my desire to take archery is rooted in the guilt of quitting the archery team in college. Basically, my friend N., asked me to join her on the archery team in sophomore year. She introduced me to her coach because since I was a transfer student and was new to the school, it was an excellent opportunity to meet people and make new friends.
I went to about two practices in total before I decided to quit. The coach pretty much assured me that he could make me a decent archer, but after much bruising and a complete lack of ability to even hit the target, I decided that maybe archery isn’t my thing.
I still feel bad about it. A part of me wished I stuck through it and gave it a chance. Even if I was terrible and wound up being benched for the majority of the season, I would have at least came out of it with a nifty Columbia Athletics t-shirt. That would have been sweet, because I always wanted to be a jock.
