“Hey Monkey,” said Danny as Grace jumped into the car.

“Did you have a good day at school? Did Tommy tell any good stories,” Danny smirked.

“Nope, can I listen to the radio” she asked.

“Sure,” said Danny turning on the car sound system. Before he could turn it over to Radio Disney, just shoot him now, the cd player kicked back on in the middle of a song.

“… no combination of words I could put on the back of a postcard,” Danny flipped down the visor to find the Jersey postcard had been put back.

“… it’s always better when we’re together. Yeah, it’s always better when we’re together …”

Grace turned and smiled up at Danny, “I like this song Danno!”

“Me too monkey, me too,” said Danny with a smile and a warm feeling in his heart.

After the song had finished he popped the cd out. Written on it in black marker was, “Steve’s Danno mix.”

Danny’s smile slipped and his mind started to go a mile a minute on a rant rampage. Grace sighed and rolled her eyes knowing that look and tuned the radio herself.

Steve, Navy SEAL, shoot first, then shoot again just for good measure, then ask questions if the guy can still talk had made a mix tape about him, Danny Williams. What the HELL did that mean?

It meant all those longing looks, babe comments, odd touches of affection actually meant something. It was that something that had him A.)Confused, B.) Flustered, or C.) Surprised? OR he might just go with D.)All of the above. Plus a side of E.)Happy.

What now? Was the cd an accident? Had Steve left it there on purpose as some sort of gesture?

Danny knew three things:

1. Steve at least listened to other music besides bad 80’s song, even though it did sound like some surfer dude singing the song.

2. Danny was not good at the whole wooing thing. Case and point: Rachel literally had to run into him.

And…

3. He was going to have to do something, because if he was going to ever admit it now was the time: he really did like Steve.

Danny realized he must have been on auto pilot, because the next thing he knew he was dropping Grace off at Rachel’s house.  She gave him a big hug, narrowed her eyes which made her the look as if she wasn’t sure if she should say what she wanted to say but she did anyway and started, “Danno, Steve likes you. He drives you crazy, but you’re happier than I’ve ever seen you. That’s a good thing. Love you, see you next weekend,” and she ran off inside.

Eight years olds, and there was no doubt she was his kid. Danny shook his head, put the car in gear, and drove back to HPD. He racked his brain the whole way there trying to come up with something, but no such luck.

That is till he saw Steve's cell phone just sitting on his desk. He grinned. He knew just what to do.

After crashing thru a roof to catch the bad guy Steve had told Danny to book’em that he was headed home for a hot shower. Thanks goodness he landed in a large coffee silo or he may have gone splat for good this time. He only had a few bruised ribs, and still smelled like coffee even after a shower. He could deal. It could have been much worst.

He had just gotten out of the shower when he heard this strange music. He wrapped a towel around his hips and went out to find it. He couldn’t quite make it out, but it was coming from downstairs most likely the kitchen. He grabbed his spare piece from the night stand and made his way down.

After securing the room he deduced that it was his cell phone. It was playing, “… I’ve found a driver and that’s a start, Baby you can drive my car, Yes I’m gonna be a star, Baby you can drive my car and maybe I love you.”

Ok that was his cell phone, but not his ring tone. He grabbed it and saw that it was Danny calling. It touched a chord a cord with him, and made him glad to see that cd had paid off.

He cleared his voice before answering. He didn’t want Danny to know he was too happy to hear from him.

“McGarrett,” he barked into the phone.

“Ok, I bet you fifty bucks, you tried to shoot your phone when it went off,” laughed Danny.

“Good one Danny. So why’d you call?” inquired Steve.

Danny took a deep breath and replied, “I got your cd. Let me put this is terms you will understand. Message received. Mission is a go, commander.”

“Sorry to say that that isn’t possible right now. Target is not in sight,” chuckled Steve.

“Oh to hell with this Steve! Just opened the damn front door already. I swear to god every time I try something you just have to push my buttons to try and get a rise out of me…”

By this time Steve had made it to the door and ripped it open to find Danny on the other side still ranting away at him.

“One more minute and I was about to leave. Do you have any idea how…” was all he got out before Steve grabbed him by the back of the neck and kissed him. It wasn’t gentle at all, but it was full of passion and an unspoken promise for more.

When Danny came up for air, because damn SEALs could hold their breath for forever, he took one look at Steve and pushed him into the house. He kicked the door shut with his foot. Steve let Danny pin him to the closest wall. Danny leaned in for a kiss, but before he got there he breathed a whispered against his lips, “I’ve found a driver and that’s a start, Baby you can drive my car, and maybe I love you."
