For the First Five Lines Challenge, inspired by akari_hoshi's line
Martha gasps. "You seriously brought me to 14th Century Japan?". It was the first thing I thought of when I read that line. If you get this, kudos! You are made of win and I will send you virtual kisses. If you don't, that's okay, but it won't be much fun. :/

Kyoto, Japan, 1336

--

Martha gasps. "You seriously brought me to 14th Century Japan?"

“Anywhere in space and time, I say,” he grumbles, waving at the console, “and somehow you assume Japan, 1336 doesn’t figure into the equation?”

“It’s not that,” Martha says, folding her arms. “It’s just, Earth usually equals London, yeah?” Her nose wrinkles. “Or Cardiff.”

“Nothin’ wrong with Cardiff,” he admonishes gently. “Know a lovely little restaurant, just around the bay - great chips. Might take you there sometime. Now come on, go get changed. You know that they say - 'no time waits for man'. No, hold on, isn't it 'time waits for no man'? Either way, not very patient, time.”

“Neither are you,” she says, laughing as he nudges her in the direction of the wardrobe room. “What’s so special about 14th Century Japan?”

“Nothing,” he says, but she’s already gone.

--

“Are they alien?” she asks, eyeing the trio they’ve been following all afternoon. She nods towards the man in leather. “Not exactly locals, that’s for sure.”

The Doctor laughs. “No, quite,” he says, eyes trailing after the blonde.

Martha frowns, annoyed. “Who are they then?”

“Couple of old friends,” he says, a small smile gracing his lips.

“Go say hello,” she suggests.

“Nah,” he says, voice flat. “Bad idea. S’been a lifetime.”
