Amazon Vine review

Dec 29, 2007 13:19

I mentioned months ago that I'd been asked to join the Amazon Vine program, where you get your pick of free items under the understanding that you will review them on Amazon and other websites, but never sell/hand them on. Then I didn't bother updating about this scheme. Whoops!

Mainly this is because nothing I've tried so far really caught my interest. Until yesterday. :)

I chose the Ivy York album to review, and I really like it! My official review (4/5 stars):

I really like this album. I want to be clear about that. Ivy York has a pretty, feminine voice and the songs are soulful, easy to listen to, and quite beautiful in places. Her voice, however, isn't anything particularly special or unique.

If you like easy listening, emotional lyrics, and pleasant melodies, this is an album worth getting. I think it straddles the line between 'Indie' and 'mainstream' quite well, so shouldn't be too unusual or out there for fans of those genres. It's not something I expect most people to fall in love with, nor are the songs catchy or memorable enough to stay with you endlessly, but this is still a pleasant album.

I put this on because I needed something to unwind with whilst I worked, and it certainly fulfilled that purpose. I know I'll be playing this again and again, but I doubt I'll ever be singing along or humming the tunes.

Overall, this is a decent album but Ivy York will have to push herself a little further if she wants to break into the main market.

I've been listening to it since yesterday, and it's exactly as I said: I'm playing it a lot but the songs don't really stay with you. That said, this is such a wonderfully relaxing and slightly trippy-calm album that I really do have to recommend it to you guys.
