Where We Come In
Romanian born Elena Popa was a transfiguration prodigy and a pride of Durmstrang. The world bent to her will. She first came to Hogwarts during the Triwizard Tournament as a potential champion and, though not picked, stayed for the year as a guest of Hufflepuff. Now, decades later, she returns to teach.
There is no evidence to prove she was ever an agent of Serviciul Român de Informații or of Serviciul de Informații Externe. There is no evidence to suggest she was sent to report on Leonid Rostov, a noted astronomer, astrologer, dissident and pro-werewolf activist, or that she got too wrapped up in her cover and fell in love, or even that she had a son. There is no evidence to suggest that the Rostovs' deaths were anything but a tragic harsh winter accident, no reason to believe Elena left Romania to find the people responsible, or hunted them down across the world, or brought them to her own brand of justice. There is no evidence of any of this. Not one single piece.
