This week I'm going to champion some music. I was cruising AfterEllen a few weeks ago, as I'm known to do, and came across a review for the band Uh Huh Her. I wasn't even going to read it until I noticed Leisha Hailey's picture and when I saw it I was like, "Alice! I miss you!" Because even The L Word dissolved into the biggest shit show of all time (so bad I couldn't even make myself review it), Alice was probably the only good thing about it during the last seasons. Especially when she was with Tasha, who I also loved.
So Leisha Hailey? Pretty cool.
So I read the review and listened to the song and was like, "That's pretty awesome." And I went to iTunes, where they didn't have the EP I had listened to (which is an on-tour-only type thing), but iTunes did have the album Common Reaction and after cruising it a bit (I've used "cruising" twice in this write up), I was like, "Fuck it. I have $70.00 in iTunes credit. I'm just going to get it."
And I'm happy I did! I'm surprised I like it as much as I do. It's kind of like . . . electronica/80s/girl!rock. And I really don't like electronica or the 80s. Girl!Rock Totally awesome. Maybe awesome enough to cancel out the other two because I've been listening to this album for weeks. And it's rare that I keep listening to an album all the way through.
I think it'd make an excellent make out album. Grab your best girl and go at it.
Here's my favorite song from the album. It's called Not A Love Song. There's a unicorn. That's extremely well hung. Gross. But there's Leisha Hailey. Yay!

And here's the song that made me dig deeper, Black and Blue.
