Ceithre Lá,
Day 16: Your First Kiss
I'm going to choose to go with what I would like to remember as my first kiss, as it was the first mutual kiss and wasn't part of truth or dare or spin the bottle.
I was . . . 15? Yeah, that sounds right. It was a little before I started dating my first boyfriend. I remember that a few days before, I had borrowed his hoodie. It was fall, and it might have been as late as November, and I suppose I was cold and he offered it to me. Later, we were chatting online, and I remember that he asked when he could have his hoodie back and, flirt that I am, I told him that I'd only give it back in exchange for a kiss or a hug.
That weekend, we were with friends, and I did, indeed, give him back his hoodie. But he drove me back from our friend's house to my mom, and on the way, he asked two things: First, if I would go with him to the winter dance (which was such a relief because winter dance was a Sadie Hawkins thing and I was trying to get my nerve up to ask him) and second, when could he "pay" for getting his hoodie back?
So, we arrived in the parking lot outside my house and I told him he could collect. Well, I guess it was me "collecting" in this scenario, but whatever. And Alicia Keys' Fallin' came on the radio and I remember laughing and saying, "How appropriate." But we were so fucking awkward, not just by ourselves, but together especially, and everytime we "went in", we'd start laughing. So there was no "landing" during the song. But when Madonna's Music came on next, we managed to get our shit together and we kissed for the first time.
Day 17: Your Favorite Memory
Oy. Is it really possible to have one favorite memory? I can't imagine that it is! I'll pick one that comes up as one of my ultimate favorites.
Let's see. How about this one? My entire experience on Route 66 was full of great memories, but I'm very fond of one of the more banal ones. We had been driving all day through Oklahoma, Kansas, and Texas so that we could get to our motel in Tucumcari, New Mexico. We had gotten off in Amarillo in order to find some dinner, but we ended up in super shady neighborhood, the place we were looking for no longer existing, and we hightailed it out of there as soon as possible. For some reason I can no longer remember, we did have some pie, and we ate that.
We rolled in New Mexico well after dark and checked in. After, we got into our car and roamed around until we found a McDonalds. We got snack wrappers. When we got back, the four of us sat outside our rooms just kind of eating, relaxing, and chatting.
You can see the sign for our motel here:
And a picture of the motel room:
And a picture of my mom, her friend, and her friend's son sitting outside the motel:
Day 18: Your Favorite Birthday:
Another difficult one. I've had some good birthdays. Nothing too exciting as ever happened because my birthday pretty much always falls on the first day back to school (January 3rd!), but I had a good one a couple years ago with my friends at a Mexican Retaurant:
and I remember a good one that took place during the Iowa primary in 2008:
Day 19: Something You Regret
Oh . . . I probably regret a lot of things. Probably most of those things are things I shouldn't share in public.
Day 20: This Month
This month is about to get super rocking after Friday because . . . WINTER BREAK!!!!!! Today was also pretty cool because we had a snow day which was, incidentally, the first snow day I've had in five years. Winter break will be awesome because some of my friends will be coming back into town and I'll be hanging out with some of my newer friends, including what I imagine will be a drunken malarky-filled bowling game next Monday.
