The Eye of Jupiter

I have no fun story for The Eye of Jupiter like I had for the The Passage but I'd be willing to bet I watched both on the same day.

What a great introduction, right? I'm losing my touch.

I hope you'll jump the cut anyway.

O that Jupiter would but bring back to me the years that have passed! )

re. Kara and Lee, I've always found it kind of hard to care much about their relationship, which is weird in some ways because I like them both very much as characters. I just think that they work so much better as friends and almost-siblings than they ever do as lovers. They seem to bring out the worst in each other when they're attempting to be something more than friends, in my opinion. I know a lot of people see their relationship as the central one of the show, but for me, that's always Laura and Bill. Kara and Lee would have been far better off recognising that they didn't work well together and making an effort to find other people, I reckon.

I wonder if they put Boomer in charge of Hera because she looks like Athena, and because supposedly, she knows more about humans than most of the other cylons? Not that it worked.

Baltar and Laura are just endlessly interesting when they're in a scene together. I can't think of a single one through the series where that isn't the case. I've often wondered what it is about Laura that Baltar finds so fascinating, above and beyond what he feels for any of the other humans. I mean, it's quite clear that he has some kind of crush on her, but he's just desperate for her to like him and approve of him, more than he ever is about Adama or Tigh or Starbuck, for example. You kind of wonder how things might have been different if she'd managed to give him a bit of that approval he craved so much.

Recently hanging out in new corners of the BSG fandom, I maybe bought a pair of girlslash goggles and have a new secret OTP that is Laura/Starbuck. So, even if it's ridiculous, I'm going to go ahead and say outright that yes, Kara and Laura got their groove on back on New Caprica before the occupation.

I'd love to know more about what happened in that missing year, and what kind of relationships developed. Laura must have at least made friends with other people than Maya, surely, but it never really develops into anything once they're back in space. I'd pay good money for a movie showing what happened on New Caprica.

re. Laura and Hera - I agree that I don't know what else she could have done in that position, beyond killing the baby. She knows the cylons view Hera as enormously important, and probably won't rest until they have the baby safely in their hands, so in order to try to protect the fleet, she's got to remove Hera from the equation, either by killing her or by pretending to. It hurts Helo and Sharon hugely, yes, but she can't involve them in the subtefuge because Sharon is still a completely unknown quantity, and there is nothing at all to suggest that she doesn#t have plans to take off straight back to the cylons as soon as the baby is born.

(Sharon prior to New Caprica does annoy me. She can be so completely hypocritical, it's unreal).

I do think Bill just doesn't see big pictures the same way Laura does. Everything is personal to him.

I actually don't understand why Sam can't go.

Most likely because Lee doesn't want Sam getting to be the one who rides in and saves the day.

Sorry for the length!
