Overdue Update From Last Weekend

Oct 14, 2005 10:31

Last weekend we had a great time!  It was the first time since MONTHS and MONTHS before the wedding that we felt like we were free to do as we pleased.  Ah, the freedom!

So, on Friday we went and returned some gifts to Crate and Barrel and checked out some furniture and Brad promptly fell in love with a chair.  But, we weren't going to buy anything at our first stop.  So we went home and enjoyed a movie in bed.  It was so relaxing!

Saturday he had a work event during the day so I finished up my Thank You cards (yes, I just finished them... I literally felt like I hadn't had time before that and I'm sure I could have... but whatever).  :o)  When he got home we went off to do some more furniture shopping.  We checked out Costco Home and I really liked a couch there but it was the last one left, no more were coming in and there were a few spots on it so I was a little uncomfortable.  But, I didn't want to leave either.  I have this really awful complex sometimes where I cannot for the life of me figure out if I'm making the right choice or not and I always fear having regret.  But, we left the couch behind as three other couples then started to fight for the right to take the baby home.  Eek!  Furniture shopping can be high pressure!

So we went into Kirkland to check out some furniture stores and we just felt like everything was WAY too formal for us.  Off to Tukwila and it's infamous "Furniture Row" we went.  We went into several stores but I absolutely fell in love with an enormous sectional at the Macy's Home Store.  We got the specs, color samples and off we went.  We stopped at Home Depot to get paint samples because Brad was curious to have a concrete example of the colors I was thinking of for the house.  So, we went home and I pinned up the color ideas (right next to the magazine clippings I've been tacking up on the walls).  He liked the colors I chose and then we measured for the sectional.  Brad thought it was going to be too big.  So, I drew up a little schematic of how I thought the room should look and he drew up his.  Then we put them side by side.  I hate to be arrogant... but mine was better!  :o)  So then I explained that we want our main living area to feel open and light and big and by looking at the pictures which did he think accomplished that... he agreed that mine did.  Yippee!

So, on Sunday we went and looked at the sectional again and he even agreed that it was amazing.  So, we're going to go purchase it this Sunday and I'll post pics afterwards. We won't get it for like 10 weeks though because we're customizing the color on the sectional.  We're maximizing our savings by purchasing it this weekend because they're doing some kind of percentage off plus "Opportunity Dollars" or something like that. After that we were off to return things to Pottery Barn where we ordered the mirror and sconce from them that I've been wanting for our main bathroom:

The sconce we're getting is brushed nickel and is a triple sconce but that't the mirror we're getting too.

Then we went off to Crate & Barrel where we applied our gift cards and returns to purchase the chair that we both liked but that Brad honestly LOVES:

And a down filled pillow in a deep wine-red sort of color.  I took the day off of work this coming Wednesday at which time the chair will be delivered.

Then it was off to Macy's where we had a ton of things to return and some gift cards burning holes in our pockets.  We honestly had an amazing time with the gal who helped us return our things and I've heard horror stories about Macy's but it was a great experience for us.  After returning our stuff we ended up purchasing some of the following:

Seven more place settings of our Nambe dishes:

Some serving bowls, dishes and platters:

A new Kitchenaid Mixer in "Cinnamon" (which we had not intention of replacing our old one for a while but we had enough left to buy it):

Some boring old Pyrex glass dishes with lids and a few odds and ends as far as cooking utensils and more specialty type pans and pots and then we also got a large glass Kosta Boda dish/bowl in a deep red color similar to these:

We were positively giddy by the time we left.  In fact, we both agreed that it was far more fun than registering was in the first place!  :o)  So we went home, unpacked our goods and started the washing and putting away process.  Ah, it was such fun!  The truly strange part was that I knew this was really the last major wedding related thing we were doing.  It was a little sad but it definitely made me smile to think that we'd moved on from the wedding planning to our actual "life planning" and making our condo a home for us both that we're proud of.

We do still have one last wedding thing to do though... we're not going to have a photoalbum put together until around Christmas time or later because we wanted to have our pictures for a while and just enjoy them and then have something else to look forward to.  We're dorks.  ;o)
