Supplies

1 sheet lightweight MDF or Plywood cut to the size you want.( Home Depot does this for free)

2-3” Foam (I used 3" and actually just purchased two Queen sized mattress foam pads that were el-cheapo and used those layered on top of each other)

Spray Adhesive

Buttons that can be covered with fabric (can be found in the "Notions" section at JoAnn Fabrics)

Medium washers

Thin wire (I bought mine at JoAnn's and found it in the jewelry making area )

Fabric (get enough fabric to have at least 6” on all four sides of the board to work with)

Drill

High powered staple gun & staples

Long upholstery needle (I purchased a needle that was called a "doll making needle" because I couldn't find one long enough other than that one and it worked PERFECT)

Picture hangers(Make sure they will hold a lot of weight~ I bought 4 of the 75lb ones))

4 large L Brackets (for Cornice)

D-Strap Frame Hangers (they're the loops you would find on the back of a heavy mirror to hang it)~ buy the same number of these as you did of the picture hangers

Instructions:

1.  Have Home Depot cut your board to your size. They will do this for free.

2.  Drill holes in the board where you want the buttons. (Make the holes at least 1/2" wide because you will have a horrid time sewing the needle back through the headboard if the hole is too small)

3.   Spray board with glue and place foam on top (if you're doing multiple layers of foam just repeat this step). Trim off any extra foam.

4.  Cover board with batting and staple the batting on by wrapping it around the board (you can buy it the large sheets of batting in rolls or in bulk at any fabric store for really cheap).

5.  Lay fabric on table or floor with back side facing up. Place board down and position it to be centered on the fabric.

6.  Starting with the middle of the fabric wrap fabric around the board pulling tightly and staple to secure. Do this every inch until you get all around the board. MAKE SURE IT IS TIGHT!!!  (otherwise it will pucker)

7.  Cover your buttons with the fabric you want to use (I used leftover fabric from the headboard). Instructions will come with the buttons.

8.  Then take your large needle and the wire and poke through the back of the headboard, through the holes you drilled. Attach the button and pull back through the front to reach the hole again. Use the washer to tie the wire to secure the button (these keeps the wire from pulling through the fabric). Make this tight, so you have a tufted look.

9.Attach the loops to the top of the headboard to hang.

And there you have it!  :o)
