Prayers Needed

Oct 05, 2010 08:31

I've been such a Debbie Downer and such a taker later so please accept my apologies.  Hopefully you guys know that I'm usually not like this.  I have so much to write back to you all after your responses yesterday (which had me in happy tears by the way) but before then I have one more thing to ask of you all.

My best friend who went through 4 1/2 years of trying before finally succeeding at a pregnancy on her first round of IVF is preparing to welcome her first born today.  She's been in the hospital due to perterm labor conditions at Swedish.  She received the steroids for the lungs over a week ago and has been on magnesium sulfate twice as well as two other drugs at different times in hopes of stopping labor.  However, Sunday night her amniotic fluid started to leak and by the time I went to bed last night she was down to a 2 (which is quite low for  fluid) and has been dilating.

Contractions started at 3 am and so far the baby is doing well and she may even be able to attempt a vaginal delivery if she would like.  The biggest issue here is that the doctor's are even more concerned than they usually are for a premature delivery because the chances that this baby has Down Syndrome are sky high.  They even talked her into doing an amnio last night but then they realized her fluid was too low to attempt it.

She's 29 weeks pregnant and her husband, though I love him, is not always the supportive, selfless partner she needs in times like this.  Ugh.

If you have time to send up a little prayer please do.

Also, if you had a baby permaturely or have any experience here please tell me if you have any advice for what I can do as her friend.  What can I say (or should I not say)? What can I bring or offer? What would you have appreciated?
