Actor Bashing

A post seems to have been removed and a wrist-slapping administered by the mods - well-deserved. The subject of the post was an attack on GDL's behavior and personal appearance at Hub 2. It was good to see that most responses pointed out that, while he may drink rather a lot by some people's standards, and his language can be rough, he behaves well ( Read more... )

Speaking as one who has spent an evening in a pub (well, private room in a cafe/bar) talking to Gareth, I've got to agree with you.

He had several bottles of beer (no glass, natch *G*) and was quiet and polite and funny and intelligent and altogether lovely. (Though he was constantly popping outside to have a fag.)

The loveliest bit was when, after I'd snagged him for our team for the Whoinverse quiz - most of which he was useless for - he was so overcome and surprised when the question, Which band is playing next... at...? was asked, and almost jumped up and down, hissing, "That's me! That's my band! Blue Gilespie!"

His face was so open - glowing with delight and shock that, even though he was the star guest of the evening, the quiz compilers had thought to include a question referring to him. It had obviously never occurred to him!

Bless him!
I adore the man.

I tell, you if I'd been 20 years younger that night... and if Gemma (lovely girl) hadn't been there, of course!
(My icon is from a photo I took of him at the time.)

Finally, would you mind if I were to befriend you? It seems as if you're even older than I am, and that is unique, as far as I know on LJ! I lie about my DOB in user info, by the way, it seems a 5 became a 6 *g*.

Thanks for your kind words, and your lovely story about your evening with Gareth. Everything I read about him strengthens my impression of intelligence, humor, and kindness to his fans. The way he stepped up to the plate at that disastrous TorchSong event showed his maturity as a performer and as a man. Barrowman has been a good influence on him in many ways, it seems, and apparently they have a genuine affection for each other.

I just looked at your journal, and your photo manips have blown me away. I would be delighted if you friend me, and will friend you right back. If I snag one of your icons, I'll leave a comment and thanks.

I share your anger and grief over Children of Earth. It is even worse because of the lies and broken promises; we were looking forward to it with such happiness, and then the brutality of a stupid and senseless death. I feel so sorry for BBCA fans who have avoided spoilers, if there are any, who are facing the same bitter disappointment. I'm in the States, but had been sufficiently worried by the rumors to stay on top of things.

Yes, do rub it in, by all means; I'm probably the oldest person in this fandom. There are a couple of nice people in their forties, but you seem to be at least a little closer to my age! And it sounds like you're going through absolute agony with your teeth - I am so sorry. Hope it will be over soon.

Just read your lovely reply and love you already!

I'd like to send you a longer reply but have to get ready for a funeral and I don't know what the hell I've got to wear. I think I'll be sorting out my wardrobe as I search - and probably find something ideal only to find it needs washing!

I'm thrilled that you like my manips - I've also got a com called Pretty Man-ips here: http://community.livejournal.com/prettyman_ips/
which is sadly very quiet, but as I can't remember to post there, I can't expect anyone else to. Sad, though.
Most of my manips go to Nekid_Spike and not even to my own LJ, ho-hum! Though they're all now stored in my LJ scrapbook for anyone interested to see, as I assume you did.

If you want any icons personalised, or an LJ banner, or any artwork, please let me know, I'll be happy to oblige.

Better dash,
Linda
