Tommy released a pent up breath as he watched a bloodied Doyle remove the gun from Bodie’s hand. He re-holstered his own weapon. Bodie was a protective bastard where Doyle was concerned. But Cowley had wanted this villain alive. “Alive, Tommy,” had been the clear order. Didn’t matter what the bugger had done to Doyle. Mattered to Bode, though, and only Doyle’s intervention had kept him from having to follow that order by shooting one of his own. He watched as Doyle calmed his partner. Doyle would save Bodie. Tommy nodded with satisfaction. One nutter on the squad was enough.

Cowley clasped Tommy’s shoulder as they watched Doyle being loaded into the ambulance. “A close one,” he remarked.

“Nah,” Tommy replied, hand stroking the barrel of his gun. “Bodie’s all right. Some of that ex-copper’s sense of right and wrong has found its way into the cold ex-merc’s heart - things are warming up a bit there. You don’t have to worry about Bodie anymore.”

“We’ll see.” Cowley studied the man standing with him. There was more to Tommy than appeared. A killer, yes.

He noted Tommy’s smile as Bodie climbed into the ambulance.

And a weapon.

Still, a good man.

Betty rolled her eyes as the three men jostled each other on their way into Cowley’s office. Still, it had been a difficult day for the squad. She supposed some celebration of the fact that they’d all survived should be expected. Even Doyle’s injuries had turned out to be minor despite the blood still decorating his clothes. She followed them into the Controller’s office. With a look, Cowley had them quiet. He poured each a measure of scotch. Bodie and Doyle raised their glasses in salute. Tommy turned to her. She winked at her lover as she downed the scotch.
