This book follows Cassie and Peck, half sisters who's Aunt Lydia has just passed away and left the house to the two of them. In the will Lydia tells the girls to "seek a thing of utmost value" in the house and stipulates that they have to spend one last summer in the house together. The girls are opposites and spending summers with Lydia at house in the hampton's. The summer is filled with mystery of trying to find the item of utmost value, what is going on with the artist in resident and how to get him to move on, parities, and how the sisters' relationship ands relationships to others change and grow.
This book made me want to read The Great Gatsby I feel like I was missing something in not having that background and that it has a key to something. I like the romance between the characters and the relationship between the sisters. One of the sisters was the narrator for the main part of the book and the prologue was written with the other one as the narrator, which I enjoyed and wish we had been able to see more of the plot that way.
I was reading an ARC copy of this book that has been out for about a year, I am not sure if anything changed to the final printing. That being said I would recommend this book, I enjoyed Gsnek's writing style and would look into more of her writing. I personally could relate to the characters especially Cassie the writer who was struggling to write when everyone wanted her too. I would suggest this book and would probably classify it as more intellectual chick lit.
