Oh for god sake, it's like walking around with a couple for five year olds. Is this what Angel felt like when Cordelia and I were having our...arguments? I'll have to give him credit properly when I get back home. If I get back home. And they just don't seem to stop.
"Miss Summer, I don't think..." I start, looking over my shoulder toward Spike. And suddenly Spike is gone. What the? Blinking I stare at the empty spot and then over at Buffy. Narrowing my eyes I carefully move over to the spot Spike was only moments before. "Spike?" Where the bloody hell his he?
A large hole is appears in front of my and I tentatively peer over the edge. "Errr...Spike?" From the looks of it that is not a natural hole. How very odd. I'm not sure I should be relieved to find signs of intelligent life here or frightened. Glancing around quickly I'm suddenly on my guard.
"Careful, Miss Summers. Whom or what ever dug this hole might still be around." Sliding to my knees I peer a bit more over the edge. "Spike you're a sodding vampire, jump out of the hole." I know they can jump great distances. Hell, I've seen Angel do it. "Errr...or...or are you injured? Spike?" I'm not going down that very dark hole.
"No...I'm not injured or hurt." I called back up to them. "Didn't know you cared so much, warms the cockles of my undead heart..."
I fumbled in my pocket for the lighter I always carried with me. Finally I had it on, and looked about a bit. I could feel a breeze which didn't seem right to me. Wasn't I down a trap? Then something caught my eye.
"Alright, this is odd. There are hand and footholds carved in the side of the wall. And I can feel fresh air coming from somewhere. Like there is an opening, but I don't see any entrance."
I tried to get a bead on where the draught was coming from, and found myself standing in front of a bit of wall. There were faint shapes carved into the dirt.
"I think there are some letters or picto- whatever's in the wall here. Might be an inscription. Maybe watcher boy needs to come down here an have a poke around."
Watching the faint flicker of light all the way down I can see a shock of bleached blond hair. This hole is very deep and so very obviously not natural. I frown as he tells us what he can see there and look over at Buffy. She shrugs and looks confused.
"Wha-what?" Turning white I stare into the black hole. Calm down, I need to calm down. It's not a dark closet. I'm not a child anymore. There's no need to be afraid. Swallowing hard I nervously bite my lips. "I don't...I don't suppose you could describe them to me?" I ask, trying to keep the nerves out of my voice. I doubt it. Pictograms are tricky. I'd need to see them to actually try to make sense of them.
Getting up, I absentminded brush the dirt of my trousers with a trembling hand. Glancing back at Buffy I take shuddering breath. "I suppose...suppose we should go down there and take a look." Not a closet. Not a child. I can do this. Walking around the hole I try to find the hand and footholds Spike mentioned while keeping an eye on my surrounding. I really don't wish to go down there. But I'd better not let that be known. I'd never hear the end of them and it wouldn't make a very good first impression. Or second in miss Summer's case.
Finally locating the holds I slide down on my knees again and lower myself backward into the hole. My foot finds one of the handles and I start my descent down, keeping my eyes glued to my hands. I'm not even three steps as I can suddenly feel my foot slide. Letting out a yelp I grab onto the handle with both hands as I kick my legs to find the damn footing back. Oh this is just splendid! Marvelously done, Pryce old boy.
The watcher bloke was having some trouble getting down. Don't know what his problem was but he descended like an old granny, taking his sweet time. Buffy got around him and got to the bottom first, grabbing my shoulder for balance. So! I was needed for something. I was in half a mind to grab at her to help her down the last few steps but she would have just assumed I was trying to cop a feel and then well, I'd have been dusty boy, so...I didn't. Was tempted to though. Watching her back down towards me in those pants... What the hell? Was I going daft? Did I have a deathwish?
I eyed her as she tried to find the source of the breeze. Then chuckled when she put her fist through the wall and casually shrugged saying there was a tunnel there.
"Punch first, ask questions later, the slayer motto, through and through."
"Yes, well. Excuse me for being nothing but a mere mortal, Miss Summers. Unlike yourself and...Mister the Bloody down there, I do not have super powers." You are the weakest link, goodbye. I'm in deep trouble here. I really am nothing but a mere mortal while those twho are super strong, fast and god knows what else. They can probably see in the darkness as well. Twits.
Finally I'm able to get my footing after slamming into the sodding wall a few times. "Bloody hell..." Cursing under my breath I descent further down the stairs. My heart is racing as darkness surrounds me all around. Taking a few shaky breaths, I let out a small relieved sigh as I finally reach the bottom. My hand hold onto the wall as I shuffle to the side a bit, squinting my eyes.
"Thank you both so much for your help," I say into the darkness sarcastically. I have no idea where they are, I can't even see dark figures yet. Not letting go of the wall I wait until my eyes adjust to the darkness, pushing my glasses back on my nose. There is a cool wind blowing down here indeed. Turning my head in the direction it's coming from I peer into the darkness. "You're lighter would be very much apreciated by now, Mister the Bloody," I say dryly.
"You're lighter would be very much apreciated by now, Mister the Bloody"
When Wesley asked for it, it sounded halfway like a request, not a demand as it would have been with Buffy. Speaking of, she grabbed at me, or more specifically at my chest. Who was copping a feel now?
"Sorry love, don't have time for a grope in the dark." I drawled at her. "Maybe later though."
"Yes, get out your lighter and go check out the tunnel."
See. Imperious, demanding. What was I? Her little foot soldier? She shoved me forward and then made some equally annoying remarks at Percy. At least she was equal opportunity with who she bossed around and irritated.
"Well, go in, check it out, I'm right behind you."
"Likely story, slayer. You're probably checking out my behind, right?" As soon as I'd said it I nearly kicked myself. I must have fallen on my head or something. I quickly strode forward down the tunnel before she could do the kicking for me.
"Thank you for mentioning that, Miss Summers. Wouldn't want to miss the honor of having your eyes rolled at me." Rolling my own eyes I inch a bit toward the tunnel where they're both standing. "Twit," I mutter under my breath. Finally reaching the damn tunnel, I grab hold of the corner.
Glancing around the corner, I swallow and bite nervously on my lip. That...very dark as well. And we've no idea where it's going. Where's that sodding lighter? Sagging a bit against the wall with a sigh I listen to them bicker again. Oh for christ sake! I feel as if I'm on a field trip with a couple of five year olds. Or maybe some hormonal adolescents.
"When you two are quite done with the forepl-...powerplay?" Oh lord, what am I saying? Quickly I dive into the tunnel after Spike holding onto the wall. Glancing over my shoulder I watch as the shadow figure which I assume to be Buffy follows us rather fast. "Mister the Bloody? Lighter please?" I ask rather impatiently. "I'd like to actually see something dammit." Too dark here, it's too dark.
"Besides, why stare at your ass when I'll be staring at Wes'"
Percy was behind me? Well I hoped he wasn't staring at MY arse.
I flicked the lighter on, didn't want to have him stumbling around and groping in places he shouldn't be.
"We'll have to come back, my bag is still up the hole."
"Oh no! You won't have the appropriate bed attire and your hair will get all tangly. What a shame." I quipped, moving further down the hollowed out corridor.
"What's that smell? Or should I say stench..." I came to a T-junction and debated whether to follow my nose or not. To hell with it, it was better to know what was down here than stumble into something later on. I took the left tunnel and soon the smell got stronger.
The tunnel opened out into a small cavern, and inside...
"Okay, this Alice down the rabbit hole thing? Just got a whole lot creepier."
