Here I stood and watched as the last bits of purple light left the horizon. Darkness was my element. Even though I didn't combust here, still felt more comfortable with the black cloaking my back. I scented the night air, perhaps there was prey about I could feed on. With the chip no longer functional, I could have myself a little tea party if I wanted. I grinned at that and strode out further from our camp.
I collected a few sticks and boughs on the way. Not exactly fond of wood, or fire for that matter, but the night had a chill that was not good for the other two. Huh. What did I care if they froze to death? Almost dropped what I was carrying at that point, but then I remembered. Needed them to get home. Couldn't do this by myself. Bugger.
Then I heard a rustle to my right and spied some small creature shuffling about. Dinner perhaps? Until I could snack on someone more tasty? I made a grab for the neck of the furry looking thing, dropping my wood in the process, and then was hit by a jarring pain in my head as the chip fired off again.
I fell to my knees with a groan. What the HELL????? I'd thought the chip wasn't working!
But it was, it was still active. Just didn't apply any more to Buffy. What about Wesley? I'd have to test that out, and soon.
BALLS!!!
I still couldn't eat then. Not unless I got one of the others to kill my food for me. Like that was going to happen. I couldn't go on like this, I was famished. And in response my stomach rumbled and before I could stop myself I was dry retching again. Not good. That blood, wasn't sitting too well in my gullet. I better not have poisoned myself. I wiped my mouth and gathered up the sticks again.
I made my way back to the hut and climbed up inside. Then I saw Buffy and Wesley curled up together all nice and cosy. Too cosy for my liking. I clenched my jaw and threw the wood down with a clatter, then I crouched and began to make a fire for the ingrates. Stupid humans leaving the combustible vampire to fix the heat for them. Hello, hazardous to my health!
Soon there was a merrily little fire crackling in the hearth and I looked over at the two of them. Might as well sleep too. Too tired to try nibbling on the watcher. Maybe later.
Yawning, I stretched and then with a wicked little grin I purposefully lay down next to Buffy and curled around her. She'd warm me up a bit, even if she didn't know it.
