My verdict on episode 3:
Tetsu's fail!spygetup ("Do you think it's a ghoul?" "Don't look at it! It'll burn your eyes!") = WIN
Surprise!Trap Yamazaki ("Wait, what, that was totally Ayumu- HOLYBLEEPINGMACKEREL") = WIN
Okita Souji being cute = WIN
( "Why don't you carry a weapon?"
" But carrying a weapon would just get in the way of fun things, like tag~"
"......b-but..*sigh*..you look no different from a girl in that getup....can't you just try to appear...manlier?"
"But then who would keep the fangirls coming back? Ufufu~~" *)
* This line is made up by me, but if he said this I WOULD TOTALLY LOVE HIM FOREVER. Besides, trufax :D
Harada and Nagakura showing off their chops = ...Win. Not as much win as the previous ones, though. Fight scenes without zero gravity and guts raining from the sky just don't cut it for me anymore. /psychopath
A look at espionage being done in the time of the samurai and sacrifices made by those who choose honor over their own humanity. The brutal slaying of a man for the sake of the mission, considered necessary by the code which binds these men from the moment they take up their sword. All these are revealed in a sequence consisting of artfully blurred flashbacks, dramatic spraying of blood, angsty screaming, foreshadowing, and raw emotion. Anger for what is viewed as a betrayal of justice by a trusted other, only to realise, to your horror, that your view of what is right is not only considered incorrect, it is of no importance, it is nothing compared to the code that you thought you were ready to dedicate your life to. To realise, to your horror, that the pursuit of the life you have chosen for yourself will come at a large and frequently hideous price.

Okay, that was kind of overly dramatic, much more dramatic than what actually went on. But yes, I liked this episode. A lot.

:D Seriously, go watch it, it's a thousand times better than anything I could tell you, I could post the whole transcript verbatim and it still wouldn't come close to striking the same impact. Everything's in the execution of it, really.
And then I've been reading the manga, only to find that the original manga is like NOWHERE TO BE FOUND and the much angstier sequel is not only incomplete, THE AUTHOR PUT IT ON A FIVE YEAR HIATUS and I think it's impossible to ever be completed, which is sad ;_;
Now I'm kind of scared that the rest of the manga won't be as good. I've always been so afraid of disappointment.
But now....I'll continue fangirling so long as the high lasts. :D
P.S I never saw what was so pretty about Suzu before, but...
