This isn't how it happened then, and this was how it happened now.
The amazing mun of theoldgirl wrote a lovely, lovely fic for me about something that had never been properly put into words before - how my Ianto at brb_gallifrey came to be alive again after the events of Children of Earth. It's from the TARDIS' point of view, of course, and the contrast between the Doctor's desperation and her disdain-bordering-on-indifference is heartbreaking.
(But don't worry, she comes around eventually. After Ianto's continued existence stops making a mess of things.)
