When Ruka arrived home, she burst through the door, arms filled with baskets and buckets! She wore the biggest smile on her face! Today, she was going to bake with Veneziano for Christmas presents. She'd been looking forward to this since the Halloween party! She loved learning new recipes from him. The alone time wasn't unwanted either. She somehow found the kitchen, giggling like child!
"I found plenty of things to put the baked goods in, Veneziano! Will they do?"
Italy glanced over as Ruka came in. She was definitely happy which made him happy as well. He liked baking and liked teaching others how to bake as well. Gisella looked up with curious cluck, then tucked her head back under her wing. Italy practically bounced over to see what she had in the baskets. "Whatcha got there?"
"Well...!" Ruka plopped her findings on the floor, so she could see his face, for one. "I liked these woven baskets, but then I found different shapes. I thought you might want to see the different kinds, so I brought them home. I also liked the buckets. We had those around the farm, so I wanted to know what you thought of them..." Her face was flushed, and her sparkling eyes were looking down at the baskets. What was she so bashful about?!
Italy smiled. "They'll work wonderfully. We can put Christmas decorations on them and put the baked goods in them for when we give them to people. I know people like those." He gave her a hug. "So are you ready to start baking?"
He smiled. "Yes! We can start now! We'll start with the gingerbread cookies since we can let them cool and decorate them." He started explaining how they would be making it as Gisella gets up to look at the baskets and buckets, wanting to see what they were.
Ruka took in his instruction that was more like playful chatter. Her eyes darted across that baking utensils she wasn't familiar with. It was all just so interesting...
"So these make the cookie shapes?" She asked, holding a cookie cutter up in front of her face.
When Italy explained something he was excited about it, it really was playful chatter. He nodded. "Yep! Those are the cookie cutters. We can make them into a lot of shapes and then we can decorate them!"
"Well, not actual clothes, but you can use icing - which people also put on cakes - and make it look like they have clothes and jewelry. They look rather cute."
He took piece of paper and drew the outline of the cookie on the paper. "This is what the cookie will look like when it is baked." Then he started to draw inside the outline so it looked like the 'cookie' had a face, a vest, and a pair of pants. "And this is one thing you can do with the icing. Of course you can do whatever you want."
Italy nodded, enthusiastically, glad that he had made it easy for her to understand. "Of course we can!" he said beaming. He started telling her what they needed and helping her with measuring it out so that they could start baking.
Ruka stared at the lines on the measuring devices. She had never worked with things like them before. She looked thoroughly amazed that Veneziano worked so well with them. She only wished she knew what the symbols near the the lines meant...
Noticing she looked confused, Italy paused and took a moment to explain the measuring cups so that she'd understand what they are. If she was going to helping with cooking then she needed to know about the equipment.
"Oh... That makes sense." She tapped her chin as the pieces came together in her mind. "That does make things a little easier. Back home, I just used the flour bowl and one of the cups to measure the way Father taught me to. With these, you can makes more or less the the normal recipe. That's amazing! Hahaha!"
Italy smiled, glad she understood that. "It does. It's really easy to manipulate the recipe for how much you need. And baking needs more precise so it comes out right so these are very helpful." Then he started to help her with measuring again so they could get everything mixed together.
