Alberich was sitting at a table in the cafe, meal in front of him, when he saw a young woman enter the building. The scarred Karsite simply nodded to her, wondering if she had only recently arrived on this strange island.

Not seeing anyone she had met on the island as of yet, she gripped onto her skirt. She hoped this was the tavern. Glancing around, she saw a man nodded at her. Blinking sweetly, she wondered if he had been on the island longer than her. Shuffling over to his table, she bowed humbly, since she was disturbing him.

"Excuse me, sir. Forgive me for interrupting your meal, but is this the tavern of the island? I haven't been on the island long, and I'm lost."

Alberich was wondering why the woman had shuffled over to his table, but she did seem to have better manners than his highborn Trainees did. He could understand how someone could get lost, although that was due to the number of buildings in a small place. "This place is not a tavern, but someone a meal here can get. My name is Alberich, if you help need."

"Oh I see," she replied, rising from her position. "Veneziano had said he worked in a tavern place here. I guess if you can get a meal here than it's the same place then. Thank you so much, Mr. Alberich. My name is Ruka. It's nice to meet you."

She bowed again out of courtesy and appreciation for the help.

"It is a pleasure you to meet, Ruka. I simply Alberich am, no title." He was a Herald, but that title didn't mean anything here, and he couldn't help but feel strange at the title he wasn't sure of.

"If it you pleases, would you for a moment stay? You appear as if you questions about this place have."

"Oh alright then!" She smiled at the invitation. It occurred to her that she could try pasta here. This man was also willing to answer some questions for her about the island. "Thank you very much, Alberich. There are so many things I have to learn. I'm very excited. Though are you sure I wouldn't be disturbing you?"

The typically dour Karsite nodded, since he would have made it known if he did not want to be disturbed simply by changing his body language. On this island, it was better to at least get the newer people informed about where they were. "I am sure."

"Alright. Thank you again." She took a seat across from him. A bright smile shone on her face. She was thinking of what to ask him first. There were so many things she was getting used to, and there were still more things she hadn't even discovered! Where to start...?

"Hm," she tapped her chin as she formed a question in her mind. "Is there some kind of main street on the island? I keep getting myself lost! I guess if there was a specific way I could get familiar with then I might be able to at least find my house again. Do you know of any such paths around here, Alberich?"

Alberich couldn't help but compare Ruka to some of his first-year Trainees with her smile. She seemed to be very innocent of things, and the world in general even in a regular place.

"There is no main street. The shops are in one area, the huts in another. Huts have numbers on them."

"Oh..." She nodded. That kind of stunk. She would just have to try to remember where things were, not that she had that ability back home. Swinging her feet slightly, she shrugged off the disappointment.

"I suppose I'll have to just keep walking around until I figure things out. Hm~! Oh right! Veneziano mentioned a place we shouldn't go. Where's that so I stay away from it?"

"Veneziano?" Alberich thought the name sounded strange, but it was obviously a name. It certainly wasn't anything he had ever heard of even in this place away from everything he knew. The Karsite thought for a moment of places to not go, and could only come up with one. "The woods unsafe are. Some here also the place that serves alcohol avoid, but I sometimes there will go."

"Mhm! He's a cook... here! He said he likes to make pasta from his home!" She giggled. It was just setting in that she was in the place her friend worked. She wondered if he was there, but she didn't want to disturb him while he was working.

That explained a lot to Alberich since he had noticed a new cook around, and that new cook wasn't all that bad at creating dishes similar to those he had grown up with. "I have not the pleasure of meeting him had, but that likely will change."

"He's a very nice young man. He's taking care of a chick. He named her Gisella! She should be molting soon! I can't wait to see the beautiful bird she'll grow up to be! It'll be like the chickens we have on our farm back home!" She giggled with joy at the memory of home. It was nice to look back with a smile, instead of worry.

That sucks. vkandis_herald May 27 2010, 04:27:45 UTC
Chickens. Alberich had never cared much for the birds, but the memories of the chicken shed where he had woken up after the beating he had received came back.

He struggled to keep that beneath his stony exterior, just letting Ruka talk on for now. "Your family, farmers are?"

Yes... /cries/ purpleeyeangel May 28 2010, 23:24:02 UTC
"Yes, Father and I live on our farm on the outskirts of our fief." She grinned at the memories of her childhood with Boy and Father on the farm. Spring was a wonderful time on the farm. All the baby animals made her so happy she could contain her joy. Life really was something to be celebrated.

"Are you a soldier back home, Alberich? You remind me of Butler, too. Hm~!"
