Summary: Minako comes into the arcade and tries to get Nagi to have a conversation.
Minako stretched her arms over her head. She was bored as there were no classes in the summer. So, with a sigh, she wandered towards the arcade. Without Usagi around, it was kind of quiet, too, but she'd have to deal. It wasn't the first time the Princess had shown up and disappeared. She stepped into the building and glanced around, hoping Neil was on duty.
Unfortunately for Minako, Neil wasn't the one on duty right now. Nagi was, and he looked really bored as he read his book. This time he had actually gone to the library to get something, sitting at the counter as he looked down at it. He only looked up when he could tell that someone was around, mentally sighing when he saw that it was Minako.
The blond gave Nagi a bright smile anyway, accompanied by a little wave. "Hi, Nagi!" she said.
Nagi shook his head at the smile, since the cheeriness really didn't go with his mood even on the best of days. "Minako."
"Kind of slow today, hm?"
Nagi nodded in response.
"I'd think there'd be more people here without classes going on," she said thoughtfully, glancing at the games available.
"It depends." Nagi shrugged, it's not like there were a lot of people who went in the arcade as it was. Sure, there was a bit more time now, but he hadn't seen the numbers increase much.
She shrugged as well. "Must be nice to have a slow day."
"I can get more reading done."
She smiled. "Well, that's good, right?"
Nagi nodded, flipping to another page in his book.
Minako walked over. "What are you reading?"
Nagi sighed, lifting his book so Minako could see what he was reading. It was a novel in English, although he wasn't sure if Minako's English was good enough to properly read it.
"A Stephen King book?" She recognized the author, but not the title offhand. A few years back in Japan and her English skills were waning again from her time in England.
Nagi nodded, "It's interesting." Not to mention fairly dark in places to suit his mood.
"I kind of like those sometimes. They're real scary." She giggles.
"They're fairly realistic." Nagi wasn't much for anything that wasn't in the realm of plausible, so that eliminated at least several sections of the library for him to look for things.
She smiled a bit. "What other books do you like to read?"
"If it's realistic, I'll read it." Nagi shrugged, "Just nothing that's really out there. No fantasy, nothing science fiction unless it's modern-day."
"Mm... though, I guess that depends on your opinion on what's realistic," she said. "That's different from world to world, I think."
"My world doesn't seem too different than yours."
"Not too much," Minako said. "Even down to the people secret special powers, hm?"
Nagi shrugged, thinking that the powers were different between theirs. "Mine has psychics. Yours doesn't."
"No... but we have Guardians. Consider that a replacement, hm?" She shrugged slightly.
"More psychics than Guardians, it seems." Yes, Captain Obvious struck again.
"That does seem to happen more often... at least, judging by who's come here."
Nagi blinked, looking over at Minako for a moment. He didn't quite follow her, amazingly enough.
"Well... considering who's here that seem to have some sort of ability," Minako said. "There's more from other worlds that have some sort of psychic ability. All of the Guardians are from the same world."
Nagi shrugged, understanding now. "There's plenty who aren't. Lots of normal people here too."
She nodded. "I know. But, out of the places represented, only one has people like me."
"Only one other has a kinetic like me." Nagi set his book back down, his dark eyes lost in thought. "Even the big German doesn't know much about my powers."
"I doubt he knows much about ours, either." She gave him a small smile.
"He doesn't know about our worlds, not the powers some here have." Nagi pointed out, looking over at Minako. "He's familiar with psychics."
"We have something similar, too, though," Minako said.
"What makes you say that?"
"Rei can see things in her fire... and Ami's boyfriend saw who we were in his visions," Minako said. "We're not without psychics."
Nagi sighed, looking down slightly. "Clairvoyants are not unusual throughout worlds, it seems. That's one of the most common."
"Maybe." She shrugged a bit. "Either way, there's enough similarities, I suppose."
"The German's world has firestarters."
"Firestarters?" She tilted her head slightly.
Nagi nodded, deliberately letting off a few sparks. "Like what I do. But with fire."
"Wow." Minako nodded. "I've heard of that, but I didn't know people could do it."
Nagi shrugged, "I hear there are some in his world. He taught Schuldig how to shield, so it's fine that he knows a lot about powers."
"Yeah..." She pondered that. "Has anyone helped you with yours?""
Nagi nodded, stopping the sparking at will as proof of it. "Schuldig passed some of it on."
Minako smiled. "That's good!" she said brightly.
Nagi nearly facepalmed at the cheeriness, not wanting that sort of reaction. Yes, it was good that he could control stuff better, but he didn't think a big deal needed to be made of it.
She giggled.
"It's just enough to make sure I don't electrocute things on accident."
"But that's better than before."
Nagi shrugged, having to admit that was the case.
She smiled. "Any new games lately?" she then asked, looking back over the selection.
Nagi leaned back, tempted to go back to the wall and lean against that. "Nothing really new. Just upgrades to some of the fighting games."
Minako sighed. She didn't really like the fighting games. "Kinda boring," she said.
"They're fun at times. Like hack and slash games better."
"I like racing games," Minako said. "Though, the game based on me back home was a side scrolling action game."
Nagi snorted, wondering why in the world anyone would make a side-scroller based on some teenage girl and what she did.
She shrugged slightly. "Usagi said she liked playing it."
"Those aren't my thing."
"They're not for everyone," Minako agreed.
Nagi nodded, shrugging a little. To each their own in the arcade, it seemed. "Nate's taken over the pinball machines."
"Taken over?" Minako asked. "How is that?"
"When he comes in, he'll play on all of them."
Minako tried to picture that for a moment. "You mean a game on each?"
Nagi sighed, "He'll start a pinball game on every machine at the same time."
At this, her eyes widened. "Wow."
Nagi nodded, thinking it was impressive...the first time he saw it. It got old after a while, although Nate was polite enough to dampen the noise.
"I'd like to see that sometime," Minako said. "It must be pretty impressive."
"Only the first time. After a while, you get used to it."
"Well, yes," she said. "But I could imagine the first time would take you by surprise."
Nagi shrugged. He yawned slightly, betraying the fact that he wasn't getting quite as much sleep as he would like.
Minako blinked at the yawn. "Tired?" she asked.
"Not much."
She gave him a look. "Careful... if the Gundam pilots find out, they might tell MOMO on you."
Nagi visibly shuddered, hating the sound of that. He certainly did not need another encounter with the Realian at the first aid station.
"She's quite the little mother hen for someone her age," Minako said, not realizing that MOMO wasn't really a normal thirteen-year-old girl.
"And she's good at making things worse whenever she wants to..." Nagi grumbled, still bitter months later over her deliberately using the sing-song voice to make his migraine worse.
"I don't know... I think she just knows what people need to do and does what she has to get them to do it."
"You've never been on the receiving end."
"No... but I've never needed to be."
Nagi muttered something else under his breath, making it soft enough so Minako wouldn't be able to hear it.
"Hm?" She eyed him closely.
"Nothing."
"I don't believe you~." She gave him a knowing look and then straightened from the counter. "If it was nothing, you wouldn't have said anything at all." She chuckled a bit.
Nagi snorted, shaking his head. "Just drop it." He didn't want to have to explain anything just to get her to go away.
"Oh, psh," Minako huffed slightly. "You should lighten up sometime." She sighed, and then shrugged it off. "Oh well." Looking around at the games again, she frowned a bit. "Well, if there's nothing interesting, I guess I'll go. Bye!" She waved and headed for the door.
Nagi let out a sigh of relief when she left, not bothering with a good-bye. It was more than enough for him that she was out the door and he was being left in peace again.
