Alberich was on one of his usual jogs around the 'safe' area of the island when he came across a face that was somewhat-familiar, but definitely younger than he remembered. He stopped in his tracks, trying to make himself look at least a little less threatening at first.

The teenager schooled his expression to one of bland indifference when he realised someone was approaching, coming to a halt when the older stopped. Luckily for him, his owl decided to ignore the stranger by remaining silent and relatively obedient.

He studied the scarred face, searchingly, though he did not speak. Would likely only speak when spoken to, if only to see what sort of person the other was. As far as he was concerned, this was his first visit to the island, and he had no recollection of anyone.

Alberich looked over the teenage boy standing in front of him, mentally comparing him to a 2nd or 3rd-year Trainee. He paid attention to the boy with a fair degree of scrutiny, taking in the ill-fitting clothing first since it was the most obvious. He figured out quickly that the other would not speak unless he was spoken to, and decided to start things off. "Are you new here?"

Severus merely nodded, as a nod was all he saw to be required. The taller man's gaze made him just a touch uncomfortable as it was obvious his poorly-fitting clothes stood out. He just waited for the mocking to begin, it rarely failed to appear. This man might be a teacher, however, and might restrain himself-for a time and not in front of him.

Mocking was one thing Alberich never did, unless you counted showing teenage boys that they were not indestructible "mocking". He crossed his arms, changing his stance to that of the bodyguard, to show what sort he was. "Where come you from?"

Which he didn't, he was just unaware of just what sort of person Alberich was. Until the stance shifted and registered in Severus' mind as a protector, paid or otherwise. Inwardly puzzling over the accent and sentance structure, he finally answered in a quiet, neutral voice. "England, sir."

England? That was one country Alberich had not heard of, obviously. The confused look on his face would have told Severus everything that he needed to know about that. "I Alberich am. Only times I 'sir' called, in classroom or salle are."

So he'd been right in thinking this man could be a teacher. But a teacher of what? He understood the term salle, meaning he likely didn't want to cross this one if he could help it. One thing that confused him, though he didn't let it show out of habbit and harsh experience.

"I am Severus Snape," was his polite response.

If Alberich had known what Severus was thinking, he would not be surprised at that the teenager in front of him was not interested in crossing him. Then again, he did not think that anyone who showed up on this island would be stupid enough to cross a 6 foot, muscled, scarred man. "This island is a strange place. It takes people from their homes, and here brings them."

Severus gave a slight nod, acknowledging that bit of information on where they were. The dark-feathered owl chose that moment to stretch his wings, not that Severus shifted his dark gaze from Alberich. Instead, the wizard simply reached into another pocket and pulled out a bit of food for the bird, as if this was a normal occurance.

A bit hesitant, the teen gave voice to a question, testing to see if the man minded answering questions.

"Where is this island?"

The owl was a bit different for Alberich, but he chalked it up to the rumors that he had heard about the 'Hawkbrothers'. This boy did not look like one of them, but at least owls as pets were not entirely foreign. "No one truly knows, where this place is. The only one who may, a god's child is."

If Severus were a mind-reader, much as he later became if he chose, he'd wonder what a Hawkbrother was. As it was, he was used to owls being all over the place, and thought very little of having one on his shoulder, even if he didn't care for this one's particular personality. It could be quite beastly when it chose.

But..a god's child? That gave him just a slight flinch of surprise at the mere idea, which of course caused the owl to peck at him in irritation. He shifted his attention, finally, to the bird and gave it an ever so mild glare, more a slight narrowing of the eyes and thinning of lips than anything else.

"How is it possible for a child of a god to walk amongst mortals?"

At least the man didn't seem to mind answering questions, though he kept it to himself that he'd ask as few as he could manage.

"You must her yourself ask." Alberich was naturally wary around Pluto, out of respect for her own power and not necessarily her role, although that also made him wary. "She manages the clothing store, and spends most of her time there, when she not with her loved one is."

Actually talk to her? Severus balked at the thought before giving himself a slight shake, struggling to regain his self-control. Not that he was about to admit aloud that he had no plans to speak with her if he could help it. If only he'd let himself ask if anyone else worked at this clothing store, he might be able to relax slightly, knowing that he could get clothes that fit him better, yet not have to talk to her if he went at the right time.

As he wouldn't let himself ask any of the questions pertaining to the god's child, he simply nodded with a quiet, non-commital noise.

Alberich saw the signs of struggling self-control, sighing inwardly and doing a much better job of hiding it. As it was, this version of Severus Snape reminded him too much of some of his timid Trainees, or those who had come from backgrounds that other residents would be too familiar with.

And he was unaware of how transparent he was to the older man. If he were, he'd be horrified and would grow even quieter. Of course, he'd expect to be punished as well. He did, however, manage to keep from fidgeting.
