Summary: Nate introduces himself to Negi, and Negi's paperwork..

It was a pretty slow day, and there wasn't really anything to do, so Negi sat at the Cafe, snacking on a few cookies, and correcting some english papers. He didn't know what to do with himself, so he figured he'd get some work done.

Reality twisted tore slightly, just enough for a thin figure to cross through. One second he was lying on the beach the next his was floating in the cafe, glancing around to see who was in. The only other person in sight was a kid, reading through a stack of papers.

Negi never noticed the tear in reality, but knew that something felt wrong thanks to his magical "sense". But, figuring it was one of the others that lived on the island, Negi payed it no mind, and continued to work away, before grabbing a cookie.

Somewhat curious, Nate floated above him reading over his shoulder. ~What are you working on?~

Negi jumpped. He wasn't expecting the telepatic message, and looked around, before looking straight up. "Oh. Um, hello there." The young boy said, and fixed his glasses.

"Hello,' Nate replied, out loud this time as he plopped into the chair across from Negi, snagging a cookie as he did so.

Negi curiously looked over the young man. He seemed to be just a little bit into his twenties, but he didn't want to nitpick any of the details. "My name is Negi. Negi Springfield. Who might you be?" He asked rather politely. Not caring about the cookie.

"Nate Grey," the young man replied snacking on the cookie. "Sorry to bother you."

Negi just smiled. "It's no bother. I was just correcting some papers." He said, and pushed the small stack to the side. "You must be new here. I haven't seen you around here before." He said.

"I got lost and I wound up here," Nate replied glancing at the papers. The kid seemed to young to be a teacher, but appearances could be deceiving. He was proof of that.

Negi nodded. "Somehow, we all got transported here without us knowing." He said, and grabbed one of the cookies. It was Jon's speciality, and Negi loved them.

"I didn't quite get here without knowing how. I know how I got here. I just can't find the way out."

Negi wasn't quite sure what Nate meant, but he could feel some sort of power within the young man. "I see. Well, I've tried reseaching the island, but somehow, there's something that's keeping us from leaving." He said, then blushed very slightly. "Not that I mind meeting everyone here." He said softly.

Nodding Nate replied, "It's weird not being able to leave though. This is longest I've spent one dimension in a year."

Negi blinked a bit confused-like. He wasn't sure what Nate meant, but still, seemed curious. "What do you mean one dimension?" He asked.

"One reality. I'm used to traveling through alternate Earths," Nate replied grabbing a plate of food from the buffet with his mind.

"That seems intresting." Negi said, as he contiued to listen. He was a bit facinated with Nate's "manner" of gathering food, but didn't question it. After all, he had a ghost and a robot for students back home. "So you can move things with your mind?" He asked bluntly.

"Yeah, I'm a telekinetic, telepathic too, as you saw earlier. That how I travel between realities."

"Intresting." Negi said, as he munched on another cookie. "How long have you been here?" He asked.

"A few days," Nate replied digging into the plate of food. ~I'm not sure I'm supposed to be here though. It's not like I'm on the list of hut assignments or anything.~

Negi was again trying to get used to the telepathy. "Well, I'm sure that you'll be put somewhere." He said, and wondered where to get the infomation.

~I was told it would be on the bulletin board, but I looked for my name but I couldn't find it.~ Digging into the plate of food Nate threw together things seemingly at random eating rapidly like a starving dog.

Negi blinked a couple of times at the way Nate ate. He wasn't disgusted, but still, couldn't really understand the way he ate. "I see." He said, and thought about it. "Maybe it hasn't been updated yet?"

~Maybe. Pluto says the reason I can't leave is because I keep getting lost. There's something that hides the path out so I can' leave. Maybe it's the same thing as does hut assignments.~

That gave Negi a bit of curious insight. He had spent time trying to research the island, but never thought that there might have been someone blocking their path home. "That's intresting. I never figured that before." He said.

~I'm just basing this on what Pluto said, but honestly I don't know if I trust her or not. Something about her seems odd.~

Negi chuckled. "Well, there's allot of stuff that seems odd around here." He said, and looked around. "Jon, who cooks in the cafe is a werewolf. Miss Shampoo is cursed, and turns into a cat when she gets wet with cold water." Negi said, and thought about it.

~That's weird?~ Truth be told it seemed almost par for course for him.

Negi chuckled again. "Not as weird as a man that can talk directly to your mind, or a boy that uses magic I suppose." He said, and picked up a cup of tea that was behind some books.

~No those were also normal last time I checked.~

"Depends on who you really talk to. I remember that Miroku and Sango were from Japan's past, and never really had someone like you in their time."

~In my world, very little is strange. Well, it wouldn't be strange if my world had ever existed.~

Negi just blinked again. "What do you mean had ever existed?" He asked.

~Some one changed the past.~

"Someone changed the past?"

~That's what I said,~ Nate replied finishing the last of the food.

Negi nodded. "Indeed." He said, and sighed a little, looking at the stack of papers that he had to his right. "You don't mind that I do a little work in the meantime right?" He asked.

Negi seemed confused. "I'm not sure what you mean." He said. After all, he was ony 10.

"You asked if you could grade papers in the meantime?"

"While we talked I meant." Negi said, and picked up a pen and a stack of papers. "I didn't want to be rude and just start doing work." He said.

"Oh, that's fine," Nate replied leaning back in his chair.

Negi nodded, and started to talk to Nate about the different people here. He explained about how everyone was from different worlds, and how they all found their way here, and the little things, about sandworms, stores appearing out of nowhere, and little details like switching huts and stuff.

"How long have you been here?" Nate finally asked out of curiosity, after listing intently to his speech.

Negi started to tap his pen against his chin lightly. "To tell you the truth, I'm not sure." He said.

"Fair enough. Longer than I have in any case."

Negi shrugged. "For all I know, there could be no sense of time here." He said.

"Maybe it'll give me a chance to catch up with myself if that's true."

"What do you mean?"

"I'm younger than I look."

"Just how old are you?" Negi asked curiously.

"If you mean how long have I actually been alive, about nine years give or take."

Negi dropped his pen into his lap. "How.. How is that possible?" He asked.

Nate just shrugged. "Ask Sinister. He's the one that made me."

"Made? Sinster? I don't understand." Negi told Nate.

"Sinister is sort of a made scientist where I'm from. He made me in his lab."

Negi felt a bit sad for a bit. "Oh. I see." He said.

Nate just nodded.

Negi wasn't sure of what to say. What Nate had said somehow made his little world even more small.

"Don't worry about it. It confuses everyone."

Negi just smiled and nodded. "Well, I'm sure you'll enjoy the company here." He said, and looked at the time. "Wow. It's almost night already. I'm sorry, but I really should get these papers finished. Would you like to finish talking another time?" He asked, hoping not to sound rude or anything.

"It's ok. I understand," Nate replied smiling at him. "I'll live without your company."

Negi hoped that he wasn't hurt. "I'm sorry. It's the price for being a teacher I guess..." He said.

Nate just nodded. "Don't worry about me. You've got work to do."

Negi just nodded and smiled. "Well then. Until next time." He said, and picked up his pen.

"Until next time," Nate replied blinking out of existance.

After Negi looked up, he noticed that Nate was gone, and like any kid would, was rather impressed, before going back to his papers.

nate, negi
