RP Log: Chat in the hangar

Feb 25, 2008 23:31

Who: Rashid and Jamie
Where: the hangar
When: Friday-ish
Warnings: none
Summary: Rashid and Jamie run into each other in the hangar.

Jamie was in the hangar, doing some light maintenance on some components in the Raynos' tail while one of the computers in the hangar ran a diagnostic on the Gun Sniper. He knew Leena wasn't quite as vigilant about doing so on her own, so Jamie'd taken it upon himself to do it while he worked on his own Zoid with the intent of going over the results with her later.

Rashid had just finished work for the day and was walking through the hangar rather absently, looking at the various mech there. He looked up when he had reached the section with the Zoids. He had always been curious as to them since he wasn't used to those kind of fighting machines.

Straddling the Raynos' tail backwards, Jamie didn't notice the other's presence right away; it wasn't until he turned to reach for something in the toolbox next to him that he caught sight of the tall bearded man looking up at the Gun Sniper. "Hi," he called, sitting up a little straighter.

Rashid looked over at the person who had greeted him and saw the young man working on one of the Zoids. "Hello," he called back.

Jamie bobbed his head a bit, peering at the other. "You're, um...a friend of Trowa and Quatre's, right?" he asked, thinking he'd seen the man with the Gundam pilots a few times.

Rashid nodded. "Rashid Kurama. I've been a friend of Quatre and the other Gundam pilots for while. You are...?"

"Jamie Hemeros." The teen swung his far leg around and slid down from the Zoid's tail to the floor of the hangar, starting over towards Rashid. He gave another little bob of his head. "Nice to meet you."

"It's nice to meet you as well," Rashid said with a nod. "Is this one yours?" he asked gesturing to Raynos.

"Yeah," Jamie responded, glancing over at it as well. "That's the Raynos. This one's the Gun Sniper," he added, indicating the heavily-armed velociraptor-type. "Belongs to my friend Leena."

Rashid nodded looking at Raynos, then chuckled looking over at Gun Sniper. "I can certainly see why it is called that."

Jamie grinned a little. "Yeah, well...Leena's is customized, actually. Most Gun Snipers don't carry that much weaponry."

"Ah, I see. Very interesting."

The teen glanced over at the humanoid machines on the other side of the hangar. "You don't have a mech here, do you?" he ventured, since he knew that all the Gundams present belonged to other pilots.

Rashid shook his head. "Strangely enough, mine didn't follow me here at least as of yet."

"Hn." Jamie squinted thoughtfully, cast a glance at the recently-arrived Geno Saurer and then back at Rashid. "Think it ever will?"

"It may," Rashid remarked. "I have no way of knowing that for sure."

Jamie nodded toward the huge blue Zoid nearby. "That one didn't come until pretty recently, and the person it belongs to's been here for a while now," he said. "I think Duo and Heero's came after they did, too," he added.

"Hmm...interesting. So mine might just show up yet."

"Well...yeah, maybe." Jamie shrugged a bit. "Um...was yours a Gundam too?" he asked.

"Kind of," Rashid remarked. "It was the same kind of design, but it was more mass produced and made on Earth while the Gundams were made on the colonies."

"Oh," Jamie said, and looked again at the other Gundams. "Did it look like any of the ones here, or was it different?"

"It's the same basic design, but yes it was different."

"But it didn't have, like, wings or those...curvy sword things or anything," Jamie said, squinting at Sandrock before turning back to Rashid. "What was it called?"

"It did have a sword," Rashid remarked. "It fell under the general title of Maguanac since that was the name of the army I commanded."

"Oh." Jamie blinked. "You commanded an army?" he repeated.

Rashid nodded. "I did indeed. We helped protect the Gundam pilots as much as we could."

Jamie ah'd and nodded again. "Sounds like a pretty big job," he said, a bit lamely.

Rashid nodded. "It was, but there were a lot of us. We were able to help out what we could."

Jamie nodded a little absently. "So...what'd you do after the war was over?" he asked after a pause.

"I ended up helping Quatre with his rebuilding projects. He's done work to help rebuild the colonies."

The teen's brow lifted. This guy seemed to like having his hands full. "How'd that go?"

"It went pretty well," Rashid remarked. "There's still a lot to do though."

"Mn. Sounds like it'd take a while," Jamie agreed.

Rashid nodded. "But everything was going smoothly and his sisters and the other Maguanacs know what they are doing so all should be well."

"Hope so," Jamie said. "Lotta people must've been counting on you guys..."

He nodded. "Both during the war and after."

Jamie nodded again and fell silent, chewing his lip a little before peering up at Rashid again. "I heard that, um...Quatre had an accident, sorta? How's he doing?" he asked cautiously.

"He's doing fine," Rashid told him. "He's having no problems with what happened anymore."

"'s good to hear." Jamie shifted a little. "Seems like a lotta bad stuff's happened to him lately," he ventured, still more carefully.

Rashid nodded. "Then again the group from our universe seems to be having problems at the moment."

"...everybody?" Jamie peered at Rashid worriedly. "Duo and them, too?"

Rashid nodded. "Well, Duo was also shot a little while before."

"Oh...yeah, I heard about that. That was a few months ago, though, wasn't it?"

Rashid nodded. "It was."

"Mn." Jamie fidgeted, still looking mildly perturbed. "I heard that guy...Lelouch?...he might've had something to do with that..." His eyes narrowed slightly in sudden contemplation. "At least Quatre's was just an accident," he said, darting a gauging glance in Rashid's direction.

"I've kind of been not well informed about the things going on at the moment," Rashid remarked. Which was true. He didn't know the true nature of what had happened to Quatre. "It is possible, but I wouldn't be the best to ask about that."

Jamie hm'd again, shifting a little, deciding not to pursue his current train of thought any further. "Well...hope things'll settle down a little soon," he ventured, with a small, polite smile.

Rashid nodded. "I hope so as well."

The teen shrugged a bit. "So aside from that, what d'you think of...y'know. Being here?" He gestured vaguely with one arm, indicating the island at large.

"It's rather pleasant," Rashid remarked. "I never was too close to the ocean for a long time so it is a nice change of pace. What do you think about it?"

"...eh." Jamie tried to think of some way of describing the island that wasn't too derogatory. Or laden with profanity. "It's...got its perks," he managed finally.

Rashid chuckled. "Fair enough."

Jamie grinned self-consciously. "Some nice people here, anyway. Most of 'em."

He nodded. "Most of them."

"And...well, the Gundams're pretty cool," he said, glancing over at the towering machines again. "'s interesting to see what kinda technology they've got in different places."

Rashid nodded. "Indeed it is. I find the Zoids quite fascinating."

"Oh...yeah?" Jamie looked over his shoulder at the two saurian mechs. "They're...well, different from the Gundams in a lot of ways, yeah. In other ways they're not that different at all, though."

"Hmm..." Rashid thought for a moment, looking at the Zoids. "I agree," he said, agreeing with Jamie's previous statement.

Jamie looked over to the other mechs in the hangar, the ones belonging to Samus, chaos, Citan and the others. "I've never gotten a real good look at those ones," he said. "Have you?"

Rashid shook his head. "Other than what work I do here in the hangar, I don't get much of a look at them."

"Mn." Jamie nodded a bit. "Kinda wonder what they're like. Y'know, if they're anything like the Zoids or the Gundams."

Rashid nodded. "Possibly. But considering the technology is from very different worlds and probably used for different reasons...I don't know how similar they would be."

"Well, yeah...I guess their worlds are probably pretty different from Zi and Earth. Or...the Earths the Gundams come from. I guess there's different ones." He blinked, looking considerably less distraught about this notion than he once would have.

Rashid nodded. "I have noticed this...a very strange concept."

Jamie nodded, too, and shrugged a bit. "Kinda sums up this whole island," he said. "I mean, people here from all kinds'a different worlds...different versions of different worlds..." He nodded at the Geno Saurer. "That Zoid there? belongs to some woman who lived on Zi, like, hundreds of years ago." At this, he did look somewhat discomfited, simply because this was his world they were talking about; nonetheless he shrugged it off. "But she's here anyway same as me 'n Leena."

Rashid blinked. "That's really strange."

"Yeah..." Jamie sighed slightly and half-grinned, in a resigned manner. "But...so's everything else around here. Not a whole lot we can do about it."

Rashid nodded. "Indeed we can not."

The teen looked contemplative and a little troubled for a moment; a shrill beep from the computer hooked up to the Gun Sniper drew his attention. "I gotta check that," he said to Rashid, thumbing over his shoulder apologetically.

Rashid nodded. "Alright. I should be heading home. It was good talking with you."

"Yeah, you too." Jamie nodded back.

With that Rashid head for the door of the hangar.

rashid, jamie
