Summary: Taiki and Treize are both out admiring the eclipse and happen upon one another.

Taiki sat out on the front stoop, a blanket wrapped around her shoulders, cup of tea in hand, watching the lunar eclipse. She smiled to herself and then sipped her tea.

Treize walked along, also admiring the eclipse, and paused at the step. "Good evening," he said.

She looked up. "Good evening Treize."

"Enjoying the sights?" he asked.

"I am. Would you like to sit?" Taiki asked moving over a bit.

"Yes, please."

She smiled at the older man.

He joined her on the step. "In ancient times, these celestial events were often feared."

"Why would one fear such beauty?" Taiki asked softly. She then leaved over and picked up the thermos of tea she had. The Guardian offered it to Treize.

"Thank you," he said, taking the offered thermos. "Most likely, it was due to a lack of understanding." He smiled a bit. "They didn't know what it was. The moon, something normally a constant in the night sky but for once a month was completely disappearing when it was supposed to be full. That was frightening to those who didn't understand the way the solar system worked."

She nodded, sipping her tea. "That does make sense. When people don't understand something, they fear it, shun it. That's the way with most sciences."

He nodded. "It was the same with solar eclipses as well." He took a sip, letting it warm him. "What I enjoy about lunar eclipses is that it's quiet, being at night and you can watch it directly. I've seen two before this."

"I've never seen a solar eclipse." Taiki said softly. She pulled the blanket further around herself. "It's been rather cold lately."

"Yes, it has." He was wearing his warm coat.

She smiled at Treize and took another sip of her tea.

"It won't be much longer until things start warming up again, I would think," he mused.

Taiki nodded in agreement, her eyes turned upwards to the sky, watching the moon.

He shivered slightly, taking another sip of his tea.

"Even in that, you look cold." She said softly.

"It's brisk out." He smiled a bit. "I'm alright."

Taiki smiled in return and sipped her tea. "It is rather brisk."

He chuckled. "It's almost at full," he pointed out. "It looks more like the planet Mars than the moon, now."

"It's beautiful." she whispered.

He nodded.

Taiki watched the eclipse, her eyes distant for a moment. "Kinmoku..."

"Hm?" Treize looked over at her curiously.

"The way the moon is colored... The aura... It reminds me of my planet, Kinmoku."

He nodded. "I see." He smiled at her. "It's a lovely image."

She smiled back and set down the empty cup on the step.

"Are you feeling any better after Valentine's Day?" he asked.

"A bit."

"Good."

"It's just... That day in my world." She sighed, "It was my Princess' birthday."

"February th?" he asked.

She nodded.

He smiled a bit at her. "Was that why you were so sad?"

Taiki nodded again, eyes downcast. "It was."

He put his hand over hers.

She looked at him, smiling. "I'm sorry that I worried you."

"It's alright," Treize said. "I think I was more worried because I didn't know."

"I... I guess I still have trouble opening up to people."

"That's fine," he said. "Not everyone is an open book. Besides, if we all were, a lot of things would most certainly be boring."

She laughed. "Yes, I do agree with that."

He laughed with her, taking another sip of his tea.

The Guardian shuddered and held the blanket around her.

"Perhaps we should go inside?" he asked her. "We can come back out to check on the progress of the eclipse later."

"Alright, it is getting more chilly." Taiki said standing up.

He chuckled at her, standing with her and picking up the thermos. He nodded for her to step inside first.

She opened the door and then walked inside the hut. She moved into the kitchen and dropped of the tea cup.

He followed her, placing the thermos and the cup in the kitchen as well before removing his jacket.

Taiki smiled at Treize and removed the blanket from around her shoulders. Draping it over one arm, she reached up and removed her glasses.

He draped the jacket over the back of one of the kitchen chairs. "How are things otherwise?" he asked her.

"Things are going fairly well." She said putting the blanket over the back of one of the chairs.

"That's good."

"For yourself?"

"Fairly well." He smiled. "It's been thankfully quiet."

"The calm before the storm." Taiki sighed.

"Do you really think so?"

"That's what I believe."

Treize nodded. "I suppose that's normal. It's not like it would last very long with the conflicting personalities we have here."

"Would you like some more tea?"

"Yes, please." He sat down.

"Anything to eat?" She asked walking into the kitchen.

"No, thank you. I had a very filling dinner."

She nodded and moved about, fixing a cup of earl grey and a cup of jasmine.

Treize sat quietly, letting himself warm up.

The auburn haired woman returned to the table and set down a cup in front of Treize before taking her seat.

"Thank you," he said, giving it a slight stir.

"You're welcome." She replied softly.

"Jasmine?" he asked her.

"Yes."

Treize smiled. "I just might figure you out, yet," he teased.

A faint blush covered her cheeks. "What's that supposed to mean?"

"Just what it sounds like it means."

"So, I'm a mystery to you then?"

"In a way, yes," Treize said.

"How so?"

"Just in some things," he mused. "For instance, some of your likes and dislikes. I'd like to know a bit more about you than just what books you like to read." He chuckled.

"I'm more than willing to answer, you just haven't asked yet." She replied stirring her own tea.

"I like solving mysteries on my own," he gave back with a small smile.

"Not everything you can figure out on your own Treize." she said smiling, her eyes twinkling.

"Don't think so?"

She nodded before removing her tea bag and squeezing the excess water out of it.

"Shall we make a wager of it?"

Taiki grinned, her eyes twinkling. "Alright."

Treize's expression also turned slightly mischievous. "We should set the stakes... a time limit, what each of us does for winning or losing."

She arched an eyebrow. "What sort of stakes do you have in mind Treize?" She asked leaning forward a bit.

"Well, I'm not quite sure," he said. "It would have to be worth it."

"Very worth it."

He looked thoughtful for a moment, tapping his finger lightly on the side of his tea cup.

She leaned back in the chair, tea cup in hand. Her own mischievous grin on her face.

"Any suggestions?"

"I admit, this isn't my territory. But I'm sure the two of us could think of something together."

He chuckled slightly. "I haven't done something like this in a long time," he said. "Not since my Academy days."

"Oh, I'm sure there's a trickster inside there waiting to get out." She said setting her tea cup down on the table.

Treize laughed. "I'm sure some would agree with you."

Taiki laughed, smiling. She sat up a bit. "How about a time limit of two weeks." she suggested.

"Alright." Treize nodded.

"So, what should each of us being trying to figure out?"

"Well, that depends," Treize said in an amused tone. "It should be something challenging."

A mischievous smile curled around her lips and she rested her elbows on the table, chin resting on her folded hands. "Well, challenging I can provide."

"Alright," he said. "Challenge me."

"Our childhoods."

"Hm. Very challenging," he said. "Anything in particular about them?"

Taiki thought for a moment. "No, nothing in particular, what should our wager be over?"

"Dinner," he said. "The loser must cook the winner a very nice dinner."

"Alright then." She straightened and held out her hand. "You have yourself a wager."

Treize smiled and shook her hand. "Excellent."

She smiled in return. "This shall be most interesting Treize, most interesting indeed."

"May the best sleuth win," he said with a mischievous look.

Taiki laughed, her eyes sparkling.

He finished his tea, and then stood. "Shall we check the progress of the eclipse?" he asked her, picking up his jacket.

"Yes, let's." She stood up and walked over to the closet, retrieving one of her warmer jackets.

He waited for her, and then stepped outside with her once she was ready. He looked up. "It's full," he said, noting that all the white was gone, leaving the moon bathed in a deep reddish orange color.

Taiki looked up at the moon, a small smile crossed her features. "So beautiful." She whispered as she crossed her arms over her chest.

"Mm..." He agreed, slipping his hands into the pockets of his slacks and gazing up at it.

She ran her hands up and down her clothed arms, eyes a bit distant as the color of eclipse brought forth memories.

Treize glanced at Taiki for a moment, and then slipped his arm around her to keep her warm.

She was started for a moment and looked at Treize. She smiled softly and then leaned against him, eyes going back up to the eclipse.
