Summary: After leaving Zechs' hut, Treize heads home and passes by Taiki, they chat for a bit.

Treize stepped outside and took a deep breath of the fresh air. He'd only a few drinks with Zechs, Citan, and Alberich, but that had been enough. He hated seeing what was going on in there, and had excused himself. He couldn't tell any of them how to behave, and he was thankful to Citan for volunteering to remain with them. Seeing someone he considered like a brother in such a state was almost painful. He just had to leave. He stepped off and started back towards his own hut.

Taiki was sitting on the front porch of her hut, watching the slowly sinking sun. The multiple colors of light reflected off her face. She sighed softly and moved a bit, but really staying in the same position. As an informed person, she had a rather disdain for St. Valentine's Day, what it represented and what had happened. She shook her head.

Treize was lost in thought as he walked, not realizing he was walking past Taiki where she sat.

"Treize?" She asked softly, focusing back on the real world when she saw the familiar man walk by.

"Hm?" He paused, looking back to see who had called his name. He smiled at seeing her. "Hello, Taiki," he said.

She smiled back. "What's wrong? You look worried."

"Oh... just some old ghosts, I suppose," he said quietly. "Just left a friend's hut."

She scooted over and patted the spot next to her. "Sit."

Treize did so, not one to turn down an offered seat from a good friend.

She placed her hand over Treize's. "You can talk to me."

He smiled. "I don't think it's my place," he said. "They're not all my ghosts."

"Is it partially the day?"

"I think so," he said.

Taiki nodded and patted his hand.

"I'm just concerned about him, that's all," Treize said. "But, I'm sure he'll be fine, not counting the hangover I'm sure he'll have in the morning."

"Sometimes people need to loose themselves. Some memories are just too painful sometimes."

"I suppose they are," he said quietly, looking up at the sky.

Taiki remained quiet, just comforting her friend, stroking his hand lightly.

"I prefer other methods..."

"I know."

He smiled at her.

She shivered a bit. "Would you like to come in?"

"Thank you," he said. He stood up and then offered her a hand up.

She took his hand.

He helped her up and let her go inside first before following and closing the door behind them.

"Jon stopped by with some cookies, they're on the table if you'd like."

"Thank you." He removed his coat and hung it by the door.

Taiki smiled at Treize. "Your usual earl grey?"

"Yes, please."

She nodded and walked into the kitchen, rubbing her arms, trying to warm back up.

He came in after her, sitting down at the table.

Taiki set a kettle down on the stove and got out two cups and two bags of earl grey. She walked over and sat down at the table across from Treize.

"And you?" he asked. "What do you feel about this holiday?"

"I'm not a big fan of it. After talking with Pluto last year... I did some research on it..."

"I see." He smiled. "It's become quite commercialized."

"It has been."

He sighed softly.

Taiki looked at him with worry in her eyes.

"I'm alright, Taiki... I assure you," he said, recognizing that look.

"I do worry about you. I care."

"I know. But I'm fine. I'm more worried for Zechs."

Taiki nodded, her hand over Treize's.

"How are you doing?" he then asked.

"Alright."

He nodded.

She pulled away and stood up. She walked into the kitchen to tend to the tea.

Treize watched her for a moment and then sighed quietly.

She moved around the kitchen, thinking to herself.

"Do you need any help?

She didn't answer, still lost in thought.

"Taiki..."

"Yes?"

"I asked if you needed help with anything."

"Oh no... Thank you though."

He nodded.

Taiki poured the water over the tea bags. "Would you like anything with your tea?"

"Just the cookies will be fine."

"Alright." She brought the tea out to the table.

He smiled, taking his cup. "Thank you."

"You're welcome..." She replied softly sitting down.

He let the cup steep for a moment.

She stared at the tea, eyes distant.

"Are you sure you're alright?"

"It must sound silly, but even with friends I feel alone right now."

"Why do you think that is?" he asked.

Taiki gave a gentle shrug.

"I wish I could help you with that," he said earnestly.

"I know you do, but I understand that you can't."

He looked at her. "What do you mean?"

She shook her head. "Nevermind."

Treize frowned slightly, but nodded. "Alright."

Picking up her tea cup and took a sip.

He did the same, thinking.

She swirled her tea around the cup, eyes absent.

Treize sighed softly.

"Are you alright?"

He nodded.

She nodded and sipped her tea.

He quietly munched on a cookie. "It seems this day brings both happiness and sadness."

"It does. Great happiness and sadness."

He nodded.

She picked up a cookie and began to break it into pieces. The Guardian then began to take small bites.

Treize finished his tea.

A bit after him, she finished her tea, eyes distant.

"I suppose I should be going," he said quietly.

She rose to her feet and smiled saddly at Treize. "Alright then."

He took her hand. "Don't be too sad, Taiki," he told her. "It doesn't suit you." He smiled slightly.

Taiki looked at him. "I can only try."

"That's all I ask," Treize said. He gently kissed her hand, giving her a slight bow.

"No need to be so formal."

"What would you prefer, then?"

"To be your friend." she said softly.

"But you are my friend," he said. Formality was a part of his movements, it seemed.

Taiki nodded and placed her hand over his. She looked too thin, too worried, older than her years. "I know."

Treize gave her a sad smile, then gently pulled her into a hug.

She tensed up, eyes widening. "Treize..."

"You looked like you needed one."

"Thank you." She leaned into the hug.

"You're welcome."

Taiki sighed sofly.

He held her for a moment, letting her decide when she felt better.

She pulled away, wipping her eyes quickly. "You should go."

"Are you sure you'll be alright?" he asked, handing her his handkerchief.

Taiki waved the offer off. "Yes.. I'll be alright."

He shook his head slightly. "Very well." He pocketed the small cloth once again.

She smiled softly. "Thank you."

Treize smiled back at her in return. "Would you like me to come back again tomorrow?" he asked.

"If you wish."

"Then I will," he said. He picked up his coat and put it on. "Until tomorrow."

Taiki nodded and hugged herself. She smiled softly. "Tomorrow then Treize."

He nodded and stepped out.

She watched him go and then went to clean up the mess.
