Summary: True to his word, Treize goes to the library to ask Taiki a few questions about the contents of the building.

Treize took a deep breath and stepped from his hut. He had no classes that day, so he decided to find out if there were any books in the library on this Geass power Lelouch claimed to have. He made his way up the steps and went inside.

Taiki was working in the library since she had no classes that day. She yawned and stretched, knocking some kinks out of her back. Adjusting her glasses, she tossed her long braid over her shoulder and then picked up a stack of books.

Treize was mildly surprised at the sight of Taiki working in the library. She had been remaining in her Star Maker form a lot lately, so seeing her in her human form again was a bit startling. He walked over to her, his shoes clicking slightly on the wood floor. "Taiki," he said in greeting.

She turned and smiled warmly at the older man. "Hello Treize, it's been a while." She said setting the books down.

"It has..." he said, returning the smile. "I wish this was social, but I do have a question I need to ask of you."

"And I shall do my best to answer you." Taiki replied moving some of her loose hair out of her eyes.

"How familiar are you with the content here?" he asked, referring to the library. "We have a new arrival on the island, and I was wondering if any new books arrived with him."

"I did get some books in a while back." Taiki said. "What new arrival may I ask are you interested in?" she asked removing her glasses, her violet eyes vibrant and full of life and laughter.

"I was curious if any had arrived from his world, specifically," he said. "I'm looking for something on an ability called 'Geass'."

She nodded. "Yes, something like that did come in the other day." Taiki started towards the area that housed the books Treize was interested in. She was dressed differently than she normally was. A knee length dark brown skirt, with a lavender flowy shirt. Her heels clicked on the floor as she walked over to the section.

Treize followed, noting for the first time since he'd walked in that she was dressed more feminine than usual. He looked over the books for a moment.

Kneeling down, Taiki scanned the books until she found the one she was looking for. Rising, she looked at Treize, a smile on her face. "Do you have any plans for Halloween?" she asked handing him the book.

"Not at the moment, no," he said, taking the book. He flipped through the pages on a cursory level, spotting some words that indicated this might be helpful one. "Thank you," he said, wondering if he should tell her what happened.

Are you alright?" She closed the distance between them and placed a hand on her friend's shoulder, her eyes worried. "You seem distracted."

"I'm not sure... to be honest," he said.

"Would you like to talk about it? I'm not busy right now." Taiki offered.

"Well, it's the reason I was looking for this book," Treize said. "Mr. Lamperouge suggested that he may have established a link of some sort with myself and Maxwell that would allow him to take control of our minds."

Taiki frowned a bit at that. "Lets sit down."

Treize nodded, slipping the book under his arm.

She turned and walked over to a cluster of chairs. She sat down, smoothing her skirt.

Treize followed, sitting with her. He placed the book on his lap with a sigh.

"Tell me about what happened."

"Well, he's been hiding something in his left eye with a patch," Treize explained. "Apparently, that's where his power lies. He also seemed to know things about me that I have not exactly divulged. Granted, my former rank is something that wasn't exactly secret... but..." He frowned.

"But you didn't share it openly." Taiki said softly.

"No, I didn't."

She placed one of her hands over Treize's and looked at him. "It sounds like Mr. Lamperouge thinks of life like a game of chess and the people are his pawns. While you don't think like that, he is trying to go against another chess master.”

Treize looked at her, a thoughtful expression on his face. "Interesting way of thinking about it," he said softly. "If I know more about him and his power, that would definitely be helpful."

"You're not one to give up easily Treize. I know you'll figure this out."

He nodded. "I will... I don't want him to force myself or Maxwell to do something against the people of this village."

"I don't believe you will. I believe that is perhaps a rouse to get you to do something drastic." She said softly.

"It's possible," Treize said. "I can't be sure, however..."

"I know you want to be cautious. For your friends and your daughter."

Treize nodded. "Mostly for Mariemeia," he said. "If something were to happen to Maxwell or myself, she would get very upset."

"I would get upset too." she said softly.

Treize lightly patted her hand. "Like you said, it could be just a rouse."

"It might just be. Relax, it's going to be alright."

Treize smiled a bit at her. "However, if something does happen, I wouldn't blame anyone for protecting themselves, even at my expense."

She nodded, smiling back gently.

Treize stood. "I should get going," he said. "I'll need to look through this and tell the others what I've found."

Taiki nodded and rose to her feet. "Be safe Treize, no one needs any more heartache." She whispered. "I shall hopefully see you at the Halloween party Wednesday?"

Treize nodded. "We'll see," he said. "I don't even have a costume." He chuckled a bit.

"Neither do I. I actually wasn't plan on going, but I might change my mind. I do like to have fun."

"Well, perhaps we can go looking for costumes tomorrow..." he suggested.

"That sounds like a wonderful idea." she smiled.

"Excellent." He bowed to her. "I shall see you after classes tomorrow."

She bowed in return. "I shall see you then Treize."

Treize smiled and headed out, book in hand.

Watching him leave, Taiki turned to go back to her work.
