Summary: Xellos passes some time by picking on someone new.

Kirara watched as Sango threw the hiraikotsu into the trees at the edge of the training grounds. Dressed in her black demon fighting gear, the slayer was continuing to train so she didn't lose her skills while trapped in this strange place. Her demon partner stood to the side in her larger form watching with her large orange eyes.

Xellos had been watching the fun for some time. Deciding not to go ahead with his plan for one Duo Maxwell just yet, he chose to have some fun with the demon hunter before him. First, the nasty beastie had to go. He reached out with his power and pressed on the animal's mind.

Kirara snarled rather suddenly. Her ears flattening as the flames that licked around her paws and tails flared slightly in her anger. She sniffed, trying to locate the disturbance she felt.

Sango turned. "Kirara? What is it?" She looked around as well, trying to feel for any evil auras.

Xellos appeared in front of the two, his happy smile in place, no evidence of his evil about.

Sango was slightly startled by the newcomer's sudden appearance. Studying his outfit and looks, he seemed to fit the description she'd heard for someone called Xellos... the other priest that people here seemed to dislike. Holding her weapon over her shoulder, she nodded to him politely. "Ohayo," she said.

"Ohayo." he said bowing to her.

She bowed slightly in return. "Did you want to use the training field?" she asked him.

"Not necessarily." He pressed on Kirara's mind a bit harder with his power.

The great cat snarled again, shaking her head.

Sango looked at Kirara, concerned. "Kirara?" She went over to see if the animal was okay.

"What is wrong with your animal Miss?" Xellos asked doing it again, lookign worried.

"I don't know..." Sango finally lowered her massive weapon, putting her hands on Kirara's neck and petting the thick fur to try and calm her.

"This is most unnerving." Xellos said locking his staff behind him.

She looked back at him sharply. "Who are you?"

"No one."

Sango frowned at the cryptic response. "Everyone is someone," she said.

Kirara gave a weak growl, sagging to the ground.

The slayer held the great cat's head in her lap, trying to comfort her.

Xellos arched an eyebrow, his eyes still shut lightly.

Confused and worried, Sango stroked the thick fur. She didn't know what to do. She looked back towards the village, wondering if she should find one of the healers.

Xellos stopped pressing on Kirara's mind. He opened his eyes, a sinister look appearing.

Sango gently laid Kirara's head in the sand and then stood, picking up her weapon once again. Holding it over her shoulder, she excused herself politely from Xellos and started back for the village to fetch a healer.

"It's too late." He called a little too cheerfully.

Sango stopped and turned back. "What did you say?" she asked.

"First your brother, now your pet."

She stared at him. "What do you know of my brother?" she demanded, her grip on the strap of her hiraikotsu tightening.

"Everything."

"Are you one of Naraku's minions?"

"No... I am the priest Xellos."

"I've heard of you."

"I am honored then."

"I'm not sure if you should be," she said. "What I've heard is not pleasant. Did you do this to Kirara?"

"Of course I did."

"Why?"

"She would be getting in the way of our fun my dear Sango."

The slayer frowned. "What 'fun'?" she said. She was getting a very bad feeling about this.

He vanished and reappeared behind her. "Taking all your memories and scattering them."

Sango gasped in surprise, her eyes widening as he disappeared, hearing his voice behind her. She spun to face him. "What do you mean?" she said, backing away from him.

"Why I mean toying with your mind."

"No." Her resolve strengthened. "I won't allow it."

"Why not? I already have."

Sango was confused.

"Your brother is dead."

"You don't know that," she said quickly.

"How do you know?" He asked stroking her face.

She pulled back from him. "Because... no one can leave here..." she said.

Xellos threw back his head and laughed. "I can."

She shook her head. "I don't believe you..."

"Do you want proof?"

She frowned.

"Well, do you?"

"I'm supposing you think you can provide it?" she said.

Xellos nodded. He vanished. A few moments later he reappeared with something from Sango's home village.

She backed up from him.

He smirked and tossed it at her. "Proof enough?"

She caught the object, one of the demon bones that her people used to make armor and weapons. It was not yet purified, as she could still feel some of the old demonic aura. Sango was shocked speechless.

Xellos smirked.

She closed her eyes for a moment. Kohaku was dead. But... the shard... did Naraku remove it finally? "Then... if he's... really dead... he's no longer under Naraku's control..." she said softly.

"Gone forever my dear, dear Sango, and it's all your fault."

"M-my fault?" Her grip on the bone in her hands tightened. "But... how?"

"Because you ddn't try hard enough."

She shook her head. "No... I knew he had to... if we were to reunite the shards of the Shikon no Tama. That shard was the only thing keeping him alive..."

"Maybe not...."

She blinked. "What do you mean?"

"He was being healed."

"Healed?"

Xellos chuckled.

"No... he was dead... he wasn't just injured, he was dead," she said quickly.

"So you think."

"I saw it happen!" Sango sobbed. "He was being controlled by that demon and they killed him!"

Xellos laughed.

"It was Naraku that put the shard in his back," she continued, sinking to the ground. "He controlled Kohaku like a puppet... the shard was the only thing keeping him bound that way. If... if he's dead... it's because the shard was removed. And he was released from that evil hanyou's control."

"He was useless."

She closed her eyes. "He was my brother..."

"So? You would have eventually have had to kill him."

"I know... but I was willing to do that."

"You really hated him."

"No... no, I didn't... I loved him. He was all I had left," Sango said. "But, I couldn't see him be controlled like that, forced to live out a life that wasn't his to do as he wished. His soul should have been resting."

Xellos touched her, negativity flowing into her.

She shivered, swinging her arm at him to get him away from her.

He laughed and jumped away from her. "Just give in."

"Leave me alone!" she sobbed.

"Why?"

"Just go..."

He laughed and vanished.

Sango sat there in the sand next to the still unconscious Kirara, sobbing.

xellos, sango
