We are going to try again. We are scheduled to leave for the Netherlands on Monday. What sort of offering do we need to make to Pele to ensure that Katla will not erupt while we are in Europe.
Work has been a little crazy lately - I assume that most of you heard about the meteorite that blazed through the sky. Our department has a webcam on our roof that caught the meteorite and so we were very popular with the news - everyone calling us to get permission to use the images. Our computer guy (who also has an MS in Meteorology, so he is more than just computers) was interviewed not only by a local news show, but also NPR. That we were busy with those sorts of calls makes sense. The thing that got me was that we got calls asking info about meteors in general...That isn't us, that is Astonomy...somehow folks get Meteor and Meteorology connected in their heads and I have to explain that sure, one of our professors is willing to answer questions, but more information would be available from astronomy, The Space Place, and the Geological Sciences Museum (which has pieces of the meteorite on display for a few more days). I took at least a half a dozen calls from folks who think they found a piece. When you consider that I usually get less than a handful calls a day, it was quite a difference... When I did my vacation voice mail message, I also included the number for the geology museum.
Well, I must get back to packing and organizing...
