History Repeats Again
Has anyone realized that history is repeating itself? I guess sometimes people don't learn from the past, or maybe they are trying to harness something from it. Use an aspect from the past in hopes of better results. But so far it has just proven the same.
First there were the Salem Witch trials. During this time people were accused, many falsely, of being a witch. The committee, or in this case- group of girls, just had to point at there victim and that persons life was over. The so called trial would drown you if you were innocent; and if found guilty you were burned at the stake.
Then there was peace for a while. History proceeded to repeat itself once again with communism. McCarthy brought on fear to the entire United States. He could bring down anyone he pleased or who challenged him just by accusing them they were a communist. When accused you lost your job and everything around you; before you were even tried in court. People were told to "spy" on there neighbors and report any suspicious activities. The media even agreed with McCarthy for fear that if they disagreed they would find themselves shunned. The sole power again rested in the hands of McCarthy- and his committee.
Today there is terrorism. Everyone is told to watch there neighbor for suspicious activities and report them. A government organization, or committee if you will, named Homeland Security was created for finding and locating possible threats. There job is to maintain the fear and point the fingers. Just by getting accused you are ruined even if there is no substance to the accusation.
To me there are many aspects that are mirrored throughout each situation. The basic idea was that you were either with us or against us. All were driven by fear. All had an idea that was possibly going to destroy civilization. And with the hysteria all you needed was a pointed finger. And each had a committee to do that job.
Now don't get me wrong. Each scenario had a real possible threat- but the actions to correct this threat were taken to the extreme. No matter what happens or what we do to correct it each idea will never be completely destroyed. People were accused if being witches..now there is Wicca. Communisms was thought to be bad but now it is just another form of government. Terrorism will someday just be another thing in this crazy world we live in. America was even started by a bunch of "terrorist" rising against the government.
I guess history does prove one thing. Fear is the easiest way to control people. It will get a crowd of strangers to all cheer for the same team, even as they watch their back.
