Another birthday has passed, and not much (currently) has changed. I am looking into buying a house in Shamokin for $15,000. This means moving (always a hassle) and getting a new job (hopefully a real one with actual benefits). But I'll have my own place to do with as I please with room for actual guests to visit me without having to sleep on my living room floor. And it gets me out of my current job, which is starting to get to me (I have this tendency towards complacency, as long as I have a job, even if I'm not happy, I'll keep it). I think that issue stems from getting out of college when the economy was crap and watching it just turn to more crap. With the amount I'll be saving on rent, though even getting paid minimum wage at Wal-Mart as a night time stock-person (I couldn't handle daytime regular retail anymore, I hate people too much) I would still probably. Considering in 3 years, at about $600 a month, I've spent $21,600; the monthly payment of a 20 year mortgage of $15,000 would be substantially less (even factoring in property taxes (which are very low in the area) and home owner's insurance into the monthly payment(at most $200.00, versus $600.00). Of course I will have a few more utilities to pay as well, gas heat in winter, sewer and trash. Since I pay water and electricity here, that usage won't change much.
The place will probably need to be re-wired before I move in, my friend can do it for 1/3 the price it would cost through a stranger (5,000 versus 15,000). Other than a good cleaning, the place would be livable barring that. It won't be pretty yet, but that can be worked on at a more reasonable rate. Kitchen first....because ...it's fucking PINK.
Anyway, that's the news.
We'll probably need some big strong friends to help us move furniture. Hope to be moved by Samhain. Seems a good time to set up a new household, the start of the new year (Celticly speaking anyway).
