Okay, how the hell did this make the news? Doesn't every president on our campus get their portrait done? Somehow I thought that concept was pretty standard. Thus, there is no need for my inbox to be filled with silly articles about BoFo's portrait. Anyway, I just wanted to mention that.
As part of Butler University’s Sesquicentennial celebrations, the Board of Trustees accepted an offer from the Beyer Trust to commission the official portrait of Dr. Bobby Fong. The Beyer Trust makes grants to Indiana universities and colleges to commission portraits of their presidents.
The trustees decided that the historic nature of the Sesquicentennial celebration justified the authorization of an official portrait now, rather than after the President’s departure.
The painter, Mark Dillman, is a well-known portraitist from Indianapolis who studied at the Herron School of Art. He has won numerous “best of show” awards, and has received commissions to paint portraits of the presidents of Hanover, Franklin, and Manchester Colleges as well as the University of Indianapolis. Most recently, he was commissioned to paint the official portrait of Governor Joseph Kernan for the Collection of the State of Indiana.
