Of Lightning and Rain

So, for those of you who know where I am and the situation out here in Iowa/Nebraska/Missouri/Kansas.... I'm fine. A tornado hit around 5 miles south of my house, technically in the same zip code, and took out the house of an acquaintance of my mom's. Then the system stalled, dropped about 6 inches of rain in an hour (no exaggeration there), and dropped about an inch of water in the basement. No.. not parts of the basement, the whole thing, except for two rooms. That's mostly dry by this point, although there's still a little pooling in the deepest part of the foundation. That's getting cleaned up tomorrow, as well as having everything aired out to stave off a mold invasion.

Today's storms were a bit scarier, as we did see a funnel cloud to the south, but it didn't touch down until it reached east of Red Oak (the town next to mine). My sister, her boyfriend, and my two nephews live there, so I was a bit nervous there. They stated with the boyfriend's mother after the sirens went off. Rain wasn't an issue this time, as these moved at about 50 mph, and thankfully, since Emerson is sandwiched between the East and West Nishnabotna rivers kinda spread storms around, otherwise we probably -would- have gotten that funnel cloud today.

I'm safe. A little wet, but we're ok here.

That is all.....
