Who: Rachel and her parents (A NARRATIVE)
When: Friday October 28, 1956.
Where: School and the Hospital
What: Rachel finds out about her other father and why he didn't come to see her in the musical.

Rachel had a woken the next morning with her usual smile upon her face. It was a beautiful morning and her cast party was a huge success, luckily there wasn't any drinking going on because of school the next day. She wondered how school was going to be go and how she would be treated when she entered the building. Getting up she did her usual routine of doing a little bit of aerobics and then hitting the shower. When she got out of the shower, she put on her robe and then sat down in front of her vanity and began to do her hair, blow drying it she put a little curl to it and then put it up into a ponytail. Going over to her closet she retrieved a nice blouse and a pink poodle skirt. Tying a scarf around her neck and her hair. Grabbing her sweater she got her schoolbag and headed downstairs.
"Good morning mom, good morning dad." She kissed him on the cheek and then sat down and poured herself a bowl of cereal. Her mom had sat down a plate that had two pieces of toast on them and a glass of orange juice. "Thanks mom." Her mom gave her a smile and then sat down to her cup of coffee. Rachel sat there and ate her breakfast, her dad looking over at her, "So how was your party?" Quickly looking at his wife as they exchanged glances, they had found out about Leroy but didn't want to tell her just quite yet, they would wait until they heard something from the doctors. Rachel nodded, "It was great, we just listened to music, danced, and drank soda and ate cheese and crackers. It was just for us to relax after the show and then they all went home, yes, Finn went home after the party." She giggled.
Looking up at the clock, she put her dishes in the sink and then hugged and kissed her parents before heading off to school. Getting into her car, she drove to school. Shelby was sitting at the table and sighed, "I think that we need to tell her Hiram. She deserves to know what happened to Leroy." Hiram put his newspaper away and looked at Shelby, "Your right we do, but I didn't want her to miss any school, she needs to focus on her education." Shelby didn't agree, "I know that, but her other father was shot and was almost killed if somebody didn't find him in time to take him to the hospital. I think that when we find out his condition that we go to the school to get her and to tell her." He nodded his head, "Okay Shelby that sounds like a pretty swell idea to me. I just didn't want her to be depressed at school all day too." Shelby got up to put her coffee away and to clear the dishes. "What time do you want to go to the hospital today?" He sighed, "Well, let me get all cleaned up and then I think that I should go to work for a couple of hours and then we will go and then we will go and get Rachel." She nodded her head, "Okay, well, I'm going to go and do some laundry then. See you in a couple of hours then." She kissed him on the cheek.
At school, Rachel walked in and was all smiles. Her and the rest of the glee club were going to rule this school for being so amazing in the musical. When she was walking to her locker a couple guys came up and slushied her. Gasping she wiped the flavored ice off her face, great, just great she thought. Going into the bathroom she took a towel and started to clean herself up. This day could not get any worse than now and it was just the beginning of the day. Hearing the bell, she went to her locker and retrieved her English book and then walked to class.
Hiram had came and picked up Shelby after working for a couple of hours. He needed to just get out and do something besides moping around. Its what Leroy would have wanted and he actually sold a couple of cars in that couple of hours which was great for him. Shelby came out and got into the car. "I hope they know how his condition is, these riots need to stop. I hate how this is supposed to be a free country and yet, its not even close." She dabbed her eyes with a tissue. Hiram took her hand and looked at her. "I know what you mean, I'm really upset at what happened, but we have to stay strong for him." She squeezed his hand as they drove to the hospital. When they arrived, they entered into the room, all the monitors were going off and Leroy lay there motionless. Hiram and Shelby both went up the bed and Hiram quietly took his hand and had tears in his eyes. "Hey, Shelby and I are here. We're going to go and get Rachel here in a bit, she'll want to know why you missed her beautiful performance and see you as well. Please just wake up, we all want to see you open your eyes, please for us." Hiram started crying and Shelby went and put her arm around his shoulder and held him there for a minute or two. A Nurse came in to check up on him, Shelby asked, "Is he going to make it?" The Nurse nodded, "He lost a lot of blood, it could take a while before he actually wakes up. We'll keep monitoring everything though okay?" Shelby nodded her head, "Thank you." She wiped her eyes and then sighed, "We should go and get Rachel." Hiram nodded and he kissed Leroy's hand, "We'll be back with Rachel." With that they left the hospital and headed towards the car to get their daughter.
At School, Rachel was in her Home Economics class, they were getting ready for their little flour sack baby project. Rachel hated this project and wished that there was something else for her to do. Sitting there looking bored, she began to just draw on her paper, but still listening to what the teacher was saying. Then she saw her parents at the door, her mom was looking at her, "Excuse me, I'm sorry for interrupting your class, but we need to speak with Rachel please." The teacher nodded her head, "Of course, Rachel you may go with your parents. If the bell rings before your back, here is the packet for your project." Rachel gathered her things and then went with her parents. "Thanks for saving me from that god awful class. I swear this project is the worst." She said smiling then she noticed that parents weren't smiling something was up. "Okay, so I can clearly see that this is not a happy occasion or anything, what's going on?" She asked.
Her parents led her to a private room for them to talk. Hiram and Shelby both looked at each other and Hiram looked at Rachel. "Sweetie, Leroy, there's a reason why he didn't come to your performance." Rachel nodded her head, "Oh great, so what is it this time? Working late or something? He is such a jerk for promising me and then not coming" Hiram got angry at her, "RACHEL don't you dare say anything like that about your father EVER!!! Your father is in a coma in the hospital, he could have died." Rachel then looked at her dad. "What? Your lying, mommy?" Shelby went over, Hiram was in tears as he put his head down. "Honey, he was coming to your performance, there was a riot in his neighborhood and some people had guns and were shooting, sweetie your father was shot in a crossfire. He lost a lot of blood and he's now in a coma in the hospital." Rachel began crying hysterically and shaking her head, "No, no, NO!!! I am not going to accept this, your joking. He's at work, yes, he's shining people's shoes and getting tips as we speak." She refused to accept the fact that her father was in a coma. But then reality hit and she hit the floor holding her hands close to her chest. Shelby holding her tight, "Shhhhh. Its alright sweetie, we came to take you to him." Rachel held onto her mother, "I'm sorry I said all those things." Hiram and Shelby both were holding onto her all crying together. "You didn't know. How about we get out of here though and go to the hospital." Rachel was still in tears as they left. Rachel shook her head, "I can't believe this, daddy in a coma, I don't think I want to look at him."
When they pulled up to the hospital, Shelby had Rachel by the hand as they headed into the building and into Leroy's room. When Rachel saw all the wires and machines, she held onto her mother and was crying hysterically yet again. "I don't want to go in. I can't, I just can't, he looks like he's dead in there." Hiram took Rachel by the hand, "Come on sweetie we'll go in together, talk to him, he may not respond but he's listening I know that he wants to hear your voice." Rachel squeezed her dad's hand as she walked up to the bed with him sobbing. She nervously took her father's hand and held it. "Hey daddy, its me Rachel." She said sobbing, "I wanted to tell you that the musical went really well, I'm sorry that you had to miss it. Me and Finn will have to do a performance for you sometime, maybe when you wake up we'll do it right here in the hospital." She started laughing as tears were still coming down her face. "I love you daddy." She gave him a kiss on the forehead before going and sitting in a chair. Shelby came over and ran her hand through Rachel's hair, "That was very nice Rachel. I'm sure that he heard every word of it." Giving her a kiss on the cheek. "I bet your father Leroy would want to know about your Halloween Party and what you have planned." Rachel shook her head, "I don't think I want to have it anymore. I'll tell Finn that I'm going to cancel it, I would rather be here in case that he wakes up."
Shelby looked at her, "No, I don't want you to cancel anything. Rachel, you and Finn have been planning this for weeks now. You have your costumes, you need to have some fun after all of this. You will have your party." Rachel stood up, "Don't do this to me right now mom, I need to stay with daddy. If he wakes up and I'm not here it will kill me. I can't, I would rather wear my costume here and play cards and stuff until he wakes up." Hiram looked at Rachel, "I think your mom is right Rachel, have fun with your friends and your boyfriend. Right now you need them, if your father wakes up during your party we will come and get your personally and bring you straight here. I promise." Rachel didn't want to argue over it so she just agreed, even though she really wasn't going to go ahead with the party. She would tell Finn to tell everyone else that the party will be canceled. "Okay, fine. But can I stay here for the night? I want to be with him right now." Shelby hugged Rachel close as they both shared a good cry, "Sure honey, we'll come back later with some clothes for you and some food, you need to eat and this hospital food is really nasty." Rachel nodded as she sobbed back some tears. "Thanks mom." Then she went and squeezed her other dad, "I'm so sorry dad." Hiram squeezed her back, "Its okay sweetie, I'm glad that your going to stay with him tonight. It will be good for you." When they released from the hug, Rachel went and sat down in the chair and just held his hand wiping away the tears from her eyes. Shelby and Hiram took a good look, "We'll be back later sweetie alright." Rachel nodded as they left and she just sat there and broke down again.
