Emma Pillsbury looked nervously at the group of children around her. There was a strange vibe in the air, one that was a true mix of stress, excitation and - she guessed - a true desire to just get out there and perform. She sighed, as she tried to calm the group down.
''Children, I know this is the first of three very special nights for you, but remember that it is important that backstage happenings not disturb what's happening on stage. To this extend, the door to your right has been left unlocked. It leads to an hallway. Please go there if you need to... be noisy in any way... while not actually on stage. Copies of the script have left for your convenience on both stage right and stage left. Your costumes are over in the back. Ladies, feel free to go change somewhere private if need be. I wouldn't suggest the bathrooms though, they are quite unhygienic. Will... I mean, Mr. Schuester has asked to help with the curtains, as well as make sure nobody gets injured tonight... As tradition dictates, he is going to address the audience before the beginning of the representation, but he will then take a seat himself and enjoy the show. I know he believes in you.''
She did indeed, her pamphlet ''Your teacher is not behaving inappropriately, he just believes in you'' could even be used - if needed - to prove this point. For some reason, she was probably more nervous than the performers themselves. And quite frankly, she wasn't certain as to why she agreed to do this. Touching textile that had been left to gather dust for an extended period of time she wasn't something anyone should do... but then again, Will had asked so nicely.
''Now kids, since the curtains are... well... umm... dusty, I will be occupied for a significant portion of the evening. I have ensure I keep a good personal hygiene through it all - as should you. Thus... come find me if there's anything requiring my immediate attention. Otherwise, I will leave a program on this wall right here. I think it would be a nice gesture if you all signed it, you could then give it to Mr. Schuester as a thank you gift.''
True to her word, she did exactly that.
''Alright... well... you still have a few minutes before you're required to take your positions... Break a leg, children!''
