Sam opened the door to the Moondance Diner casually, holding it open for Jeff to follow him. It wasn't necessarily intended as chivalry, seeing as the other boy's hands were full of music sheets. Still, Sam couldn't help but smile internally at his own manners.
The two boys stepped up to the counter, as Jeff quickly ordered two burgers to go, just like they had previously planned. Indeed, Sam and Jeff had spent a good portion of the day together, trying to find a song for Sam to sing in Glee. Hence the music sheets. Speaking of those, Sam casually seized them from Jeff's hands as the other boy paid for his food... Then, something unexpected happened. Just as Sam expected Jeff to depart, he instead flagged down a random waitress and handed her enough money to pay for at the very least, two full meals. Nodding his head towards Sam, he had spoken. ''You see my friend over there? He's not leaving til he has eaten a full meal. Including dessert.''
Sam's face reddened, embarrassingly. But he and Jeff both knew the other boy was really only trying to help. Giving him a quick hug goodbye, Sam then resigned himself to sit down in a booth and order from the menu without trying to think about calories...
She grinned at Brittany, "I hear that. You can join me," she indicated for the girl to sit, "if you're not meeting anyone. I did, however order already and I'm not waiting for you if food comes," she laughed, figuring Brittany wouldn't mind.
Lauren heard the door open and despite talking with Brittany, she turned her head. She smiled realizing that Jeff and Sam just come in together. The two even exchanged a hug and Jeff left. Lauren couldn't keep quiet. She mumbled something to Brittany asking her to hold on.
She shouted across empty tables to Sam, "Yo Evans." She smirked, letting him know she saw everything. Lauren hoped she would witness Sam turn several different shades of red from embarrassment. She then smiled softly and waved him over. Rather he would opt to join her and Brittany, she didn't know.
Sam was caught off guard, hearing someone calling out his name. He turned towards the source of the noise, spotting Lauren and Brittany. Well, he thought, this is going to be awkward. Especially if they had caught wind of Jeff's conversation with the waitress. He didn't think they were in hearing range of that considering where they were currently located, but he couldn't be 100% sure either way. Sighing, he made his way to the booth they were occupying and sat down, addressing both of them a smile.
''Hi girls... I haven't seen you in a while... how are you?''
He tried to play it as casual as humanly possible, but wasn't entirely sure he had successfully pulled it off. Not with Lauren anyway.
Brittany smiled at Sam as he came over. She thought he was cute, she had always liked cute boys. He seemed nice, too. "How are you, Sam?" She asked. "I'm peachy keen."
Lauren was wearing a smirk as Sam approached. She heard him sigh and she raised an eyebrow. Brittany was sweet enough to let it go, Lauren however, couldn't resist joking with Sam.
"You don't have to sit with us, you know? But since you asked, I'm fabulous. It has been awhile, hasn't it? Jeff's party was the last time I think I saw you both. Talk about a good time. Am I right, or am I right?" Lauren watched Sam the whole time she talked and then turned to Brittany.
''I'm doing pretty well Brittany, thanks for asking.'' Sam responded with a smile. Then, he turned towards Lauren. ''What? No, I don't have any problem with sitting with you... it's just... - he motioned to the stack of papers he was holding - he was hoping to have the opportunity to go through these and select a song for Glee, Jeff was kind enough to lend them to me since I haven't been able to speak with Kurt for advice. - The last part of that sentence was obviously directed towards Lauren - I guess this won't happen right now though.'' Explained the young athlete with a sigh.
Putting the music sheets aside, he grabbed a menu and surveyed it, before closing it shut mere moments later. Flagging down the waitress Jeff had bribed - if such a term could be applied here - he ordered. ''Just... get me whatever sandwhich's the most expensive. And... cake for dessert. Water to drink... and... salad as an entrée I guess. That's all the courses he paid for right? Keep the rest as a tip.''
Turning back to the girls, he apologized.
''Sorry about that... it's a long story. And yes... the party was great.''
Brittany nodded. "I had lots of fun, I danced and danced." She said, as she pulled out a menu to look it over. She didn't need to, but she wanted to look at the pictures.
Lauren kept quiet after Sam ordered all that food, though she was intrigued. She might even have to ask him about later. She focused instead on something Sam said.
"Aw crap. I still need a song for Glee too. I think it's bogus we can't write our own songs this time since it is about our voice...or something," she shrugged, clearly not remembering the full assignment. "Maybe I can look at those," she indicated to the sheet music, "later. Unless you're busy, Sam." She almost added 'with Jeff', but refrained since Brittany was with them.
To Sam's surprise, the waitress came back, carrying a salad and water. The boy didn't know just how much money Jeff had given her, but judging by her speed and dedication to her job, it seemed it was a lot. Especially if one considered the fact that the girls hadn't gotten their food yet. Oh well. He gave a shrug in the girls' direction. It wasn't his fault, truly. Then, he dug in. It was actually pretty good.
''Yeah, that assignment makes little logical sense. In all honesty, I think Schuester just got tired of hearing us sing original songs, though I can't fathom why...'' He paused, drinking a bit of water in the process. ''Of course, you can look at them, I'm not going to be busy for a while.''
"I can't imagine why Schue would be tired of hearing our songs," she grinned shamelessly, feeling like she was sharing an inside joke with Sam, which she was. "Really no plans, Sam? You're not meeting Jeff later?"
Lauren laughed as Brittany "danced" in the booth. Then the waitress appeared with Lauren's order. She took a healthy bite out of her cheeseburger. "Mm, finally."
''Looks like we're all in the same boat then... I don't get why Schue's forbidden it either, really our songs are amazing if you ask me. Or anyone who's heard them. Perhaps I'll even eventually win an award for some of them...''
Sam had to contain himself in order to do it, but he managed to deliver that line without randomly starting to laugh. Which was a good thing, obviously.
''Nope. I've spent the entire morning with Jeff, both he and I have other things to do. Namely remind the rest of the world we exist. Don't get me wrong, Jeff's awesome but, since the party we've been spending lots of time together... He's already Stevie & Stacy approved.'' Added Sam with a laugh.
Just as he was finishing his salad, the overly motivated waitress returned with his burger - in which he simply dug in.
Lauren actually choked on her Coke. She coughed a few times before she was okay. She took a careful sip of her pop, and glanced at Sam.
Acting as if her choking was completely normal, and she was completely unfazed by Sam's comment, Lauren said "If you win an award, I better win one. I'm just saying." She took another drink from her glass and a bite from her burger before speaking again. "Wow he's met the siblings. I'm impressed. Has he met the parents too, or is it too soon for that?"
Sam's comment about the burger triggered a smile from Lauren. Maybe Sam would start eating like a normal person. Hopefully he wouldn't feel guilty and Lauren wondered if she should offer going to the gym with him sometime. Because of wrestling she knew how to work out without going overboard and Sam probably needed guidance. She decided not to say anything for the moment and let the boy enjoy his food without (hopefully) thinking of the gym.
Brittany nodded as she told the waiter what she wanted. "Yeah, I really like the food here, too." She got her usual, chili cheese fries, a bacon cheeseburger, and chocolate shake, telling the waitress before she walked away.
